If your computer will not connect to a wireless Internet signal, one of the first things to check is whether your computer's wireless switch is turned on.

Many laptop computers have a switch located on the exterior of the computer that controls its ability to connect to wireless networks.

This switch can be accidentally turned off, preventing users from connecting to the Internet.

Determine if your computer's wireless connectivity has been disabled by viewing the network icon in the lower toolbar on your computer's desktop.

When there is a disruption in your computer's Internet connection, the icon will have a red X through it. For further information, go to the computer's Network and Sharing Center where you can troubleshoot connectivity issues and view available wireless networks.

If the computer isn't recognizing any wireless connections (and you're sure that there are wireless signals in your area), the likely problem is that the wireless switch is turned off.

Locate the wireless switch on your computer.

It may be located on either side of the laptop or along the back or front.
If you aren't sure whether your computer has a wireless switch, check the user guide that came with the unit.

Determine whether the switch is currently in the "On" or "Off" position.
The switch will be clearly labeled.

Push the switch in the direction of the "On" position to ensure that it is turned on.
If the switch was already turned on, see if there is a keyboard combination that will activate your laptop's wireless capability.

The key combination for your laptop will depend on your computer's manufacturer, but will generally involve a combination of the Function, Control or Alt and the F1 to F12 keys.

Check your user manual for your computer's key combination.

Based upon this spec sheet, your all-in-one is one short. It does not come with built-in wireless networking. Thar may explain the lack of buttonology for it. There is an OPTIONAL wireless LAN card than can be purchased and installed. See spec sheet below.

The Wireless LAN switch on your laptop is located to the right of the SD card slot and power indicator lights on the front of the laptop. If this does not work, the entire Users Manual can be accessed by going to:

I have a sony viao and its not detecting any wireless networks all of a sudden...HELP!!! I did the reg-cure scan and its still not working :(

First check to make sure the wireless card is on. On many laptops there is a small button, (on sony usually front center) that slides left and right to turn on wireless on/off) A lot of customers make a mistake and hit this and it will knock your wireless out.

You can also check to make sure your wireless card is still installed under Device Manager->Networking

My laptop wont connect to any wireless connection at all anymore, but I can plug it in to the ethernet and it works. the wireless switch is turned on and when i try to connect to any connection and it says...

Hello.

For your wireless card problem, be certain that your wireless access is turned on. Often there is a switch (location depending on the model) to to turn wireless off and on.

Then, if still a problem, I'd suggest to go to Device Manager. Right-click your wireless network card and select Update to update the driver.

If still a problem, go back to Device Manager. This time delete the wireless network card, restart your computer and see if the problem resolved.

If still a problem, replace your wireless card.

Hope this helps.

Wireless N and 4 to 5 year old sony vaio's

Any VAIO Computer released 4 to 5 years ago is not equipped with a wireless card that supports 802.11N WLAN standards. All the older VAIO Computer supports 802.11 a/b/g wireless standard. Because of this hardware compatibility issues the Computer is crashing.

For this issue Sony has not released any general update. However, you may visit the Sony site for specific model to check for any update release to address this issue.

Sony VAIO internal wireless driver causes computer to lock up

There is a possibility you have a faulty wireless card. I would go with a external PCMCIA wireless card. Don't forget to disable the internal wireless card in the BIOS.

VGN-S150 wireless LAN switch

You don't need a new computer, a wireless card maybe. The problem is either a wireless driver glitch or the wireless card has failed. Start by uninstalling the wireless drivers from the device manager, then reboot. The machine will find the wireless card and reinstall the drivers. If this doesn't work, then take the card out (located under a panel on the bottom of the machine), clean the card, the slot, and the connectors on the two leads/wires. Sometimes a little dirt or corrosion build up will cause this. At this point, if the problem persists, then the card has malfunctioned and needs to be replaced.
