Unplug the power cord and let is stay OFF for about 2 or 3 hours. Then power it up again and see what happens. This is what we call hard reset. It works to bring the set back to life in about 25% of occasions.

If it does not help after the hard reset above then it will need to be looked at by a tech who knows how to navigate around a protection failure. The reason it won't come back on is because the protection circuit (and electronic, intelligent fuse) has detected a severe shorted condition somewhere within the set. It is usually the main power supply, the high voltage section or one of the deflection amplifiers. But, can be from other sections within the tv. That is why you must have some diagnosis completed to find the problem.

Another cause, less frequent on this class of tv, is from bad or cold colder joints. You can check for this by just whacking the set vigorously with your hand or fist in an attempt to dislodge a cold solder joint. This may help, but don't hold your breath. If it does, look up and thank the stars in the heavens for smiling down upon you.

A turnoff as you describe is generally caused from current overload which sends the set into protection mode.

This is a very common occurrence.

FIRST: Give it a hard reset. Unplug the tv for a couple of hours, then try it again.

SECOND: Whack it good with your hand or fist. Doing so will often reactivate a bad joint, connector or cold solder.

THIRD: It may need servicing if the above two remedies bring nothing to the for.

The cause is often a failure in the power supply, high voltage or deflection amplifiers. It is never from the same cause as other sets. Cost of repair can be from $100 to $400, depending on the final diagnosis.

                      or you may try this

Well, the reset procedure would be to unplug power for a few hours and then power it back up.

Try wiggling the power cord at the end that plugs into the wall and the end that is attached to the tv. Sometimes the wire inside the molded ends goes open circuit from being crimped too hard during manufacture.

But, if still no power: Since there is no indication of power at all when you plug it in it is most likely a major power supply failure. Such repairs usually run over $100. Could be much more than that.

A set of this size and age is marginal. The rule of thumb would be if the cost of repair is more than half the cost of its replacement it may not be a wise investment.

Statistically it has been found that once a tv starts failing, even the first time, the likelyhood of another failure soon after is very high. Even for Panasonic which is generally a good model

Let me know if you have further thoughts.

Good Luck

Cant get the power to turn on,worked fine last night, it got unplugged, this morning plugged in, won't turn on and the power button just flashse

Flashing is either an error code or the set trying to boot up--some of the Mitsubishi sets if power removed will blink for a minute and then stop--then the set can be turned on.
