Finalizing a disc (when plugged in) on a Canon DC210

I had no problems finalizing discs on my Canon DC210 until I came to one that would not finalize (though plugged in!!).  Just before the recording on the disc had finished, the screen view went to the left off the screen, then back to the right, so I suspect something odd happened to the formatting on the disc.  Anyway, this one particular disc won't finalize.  I've heard of software called ISOBLASTER that may be used in a computer to force the disc to finalize.  Also, someone mentioned that you can download the contents to a computer, and then burn a new DVD from there.  I think this problem with finalizing on the Canon DC210 (though plugged in) must be very widespread, since I see a number of posts on it.  Maybe it's a problem with the camcorder itself.

I'm having the same trouble with mine.

Only problem is my final assignments for Film Appreciation and Economics , which are due in two weeks, require me to have access to a working camera that I can create DVDs with.

And my Photography class requires a working digital camera for the next week or so - needless to say this piece of junk is the only digital camera/video camera I've got at the moment. :\

Damn Canon, and their cameras that don't finalize.

Usually internal software hiccups are when the logic is overridden by for example>turning off power before finalising a disc
to remedy>remove battery for at least 8 hours to decharge internal capacitors and settings ought come back to normal

I think it is a problem with the camera.
We had one, couldn't finalize, exchanged that, and still the same problem.
Canon NO help whatsoever.
Even the mini disc companies that we purchased, NO help either.
We are returning this camera and going with a hard drive.
We were able to plug the camera to a DVD recorder and copy onto a full size disc.

Hi,

Are you using the AC adapter when trying to finalize? You cannot finalize using battery power only.

Link to your manual:

Canon DC210 Manual

(What format discs are you using?)

Instructions for finalizing begin on page 61.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Initialize the discs then record...but then it still wont play on the computer/dvd player Canon camcorder dc210

I have a Samsung recorder, and it requires you to "finalize" the disc before it will play on another unit. Check your manual for specifics, or look in your menu for the "finalize disk" option. Hope this helps...

Record on DC210 and playback on home DVD

You should absolutely be able to play the recorded DVDs from your camcorder in your DVD player, as long as you remember to finalize the disc and the disc is compatible with the player. If your DVD player is less than five years old or so, you should be fine, provided you're not using dual-layer discs.

Trying to initalize cd

It's not your discs. BELIEVE ME!
We had the same problem, and had to exchange the camera.
New camera had the same problem.
We personally think there is a defect in this brand.
Too many people are having the same problem.
I called Canon and they blame JVC and Memorex which was recommended.
Called the disc manufacture and they blame Canon.
Canon did tell me not to fill up the disc and then try to finalize it.
Try a test disc and only film about 10mins of it and see if you can finalize it.
Make sure you are plugged into an outlet when trying to finalize.
We just hooked up our camera to a DVD recorder and transfered all images to a standard size disc.
Either they are not telling you the proper way to finalize in the manuel or this camera has a major defect.
At least we know we haven't lost any images by copying onto a full size disc.

Ok, Guest @ solution #1 and #3 solved this for me.
Step 1. remove battery pack.
Step 2. Plug in to outlet.
Step 3. Insert desired disc.
Step 4. Toggle down on the "mode" lever for "Play-back" mode.
Step 5. Press "function"
Step 6. Scroll to and select "menu"
Step 7. Scroll to and select "disc options"
Step 8. Scroll to and select "Finalize"
Step 9. Scroll to and select "Yes"
Follow prompts from there.
This worked for me.

Thank you all!!!
