Question about Panasonic PV-GS150 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

4 Answers

Exporting video I'm completely frustrated with this. I've had my Panasonic PV-GS150 for a couple of years now, and have shot tons of footage of my babies, which is still on all of the DV tapes. I cannot get the camera to export the video footage onto my computer for the life of me. Using USB connections and trying to use WMM. When I try I get an error message "A video connection device was not detected- check connections..." I'm a far cry from a computer whiz, but usually pretty capable. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for replying.

It is reading the camera through the port/cable.

I am assuming the camera is set to export video... the directions are super confusing, but I'm following them! I have the camera on and connected, and set to "PC".

Ok, this is only a PC experience(via USB) but it may be the issue you face:

importing video has one catch with this camera---always have to remind myself:

you have to set the camera to playback mode (pretty normal, only use PC mode to get still photos off the SD card)

but before you hook up here's the catch:

go into the menu, setup screen on the camera itself. there you will find you have to choose between something like "act as webcam" or "DV playback". The camera can be a webcam, but it cannot do that and send video to the computer.

this is the setting I always forget---and I don;t even use it as a webcam that often.

hope this helps you too

let me clarify: checked the screens again:

    menu> Basic> USB function

that's where the pesky setting is.

Does other devices work through the same USB port? Have you tried a different port and a different cable? I don't think it is the camera. Is your camera set to export video? Please let me know what happens, there is a way but you have to try the basics first.

Hi, I need drivers for my panasonic nv-gs150 video camcorder to transfer videos onto my new windows 7 aio pc.

There is an update for Windows 7. Load the files to your computer and execute them from there. Don't try and download just the drivers, you need the complete software package which also install drivers via a Package Installer.

My pv-gs150 will not power up

This is usually caused by a failed component in the power circuit within the camera and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

The solution is never buy a Panasonic DV camera. Tons of users complain of focus failure and Panasonic pretends the problem does not exist. Great cameras otherwise but out of focus does not cut it.

Huge Loss Of Quality When Importing To Computer

First off, see if it has a firewire port, and if so then try to upload via firewire cable, not usb. But for any camera, you lose quality when uploading to a computer. What you could try doing is convert it to another format, this may improve quality some. Try not using widescreen, see what results you will get. Also, are you using internal memory on the camera or external (IE-SD card). From my experience, using a high quality SD card (SDHC for example) and getting a card reader (They are cheap, USB card readers about a buck on ebay) and uploading it like that, you get better quality video and pictures. Try some of these, if they don't work you can wait for another person to answer or email me.
Thanks, Aram

Defective mechanism, a stucked mechanism is present. camcorder are smart it can detects error and shuts down itself for safety. earlier models dominoes the defect if the user is not quick enough to react when something goes wrong with the camera. You need professional service to fix it.
