honestly mate, i wouldn't even bother.the same thing happened to me, with the multi coloured strips and all, but with the strips i just pressed the scrrn and they didnt show, a week later the screen when black just like yours, but the music was still playing. But as you said, aslong as it plays music who cares. i know this isnt really a suggestion on who to wix it, but if it is still in the warrenty i'd take it back to the store you brought it from and get them to replace it(hopefully all the music you had on it is on you computer) hope that helped
ok i have been this problem with my 2 zen v +,the battery is dead until i saw how it open the zen v +,the same problem stated above dont recognize by wall charger and pc no power just blink for a while and dead.i wired another battery my nokia 7610 just for start up,i put a jumper wired from red + & black - into the nokia battery, and switch on,the mp3 is on of course with the same 3.7 V battery, i waited 3mins.on and i quickly cut the wired of the nokia batt. and while the mp3 is still on i put the wall charger, then its charging. i solve my 2 zen v plus. this is my the solution it came up to my mind. i hope this can help u too.
Try a different USB cord if you have one and plug it in to a desktop computer (not a laptop). Leave it plugged in for a while and the battery might be charged enough to display the screen (happened to me on my zen vision M and this fixed it)
