KVM Monitor resolution out of frequency and will not display
I have a Compaq 8 port kvm (242809-003 or compaq spares 242697-001) and cannot view the monitor when my laptop is connected to the port. It did work previously, now all I get is an out of frequency message. The KVM monitor will work for all other ports if I reboot the kvm and avoid attempting to display the laptop. However this is my daily use computer and I need access to it.
This occurred when I made a monitor resolution change in properties and it was applied automatically without offering a chance to accept or reject the setting. Now the only thing that appears is the out of frequency message.
I have checked the laptop when not connected to the kvm and it has the correct (previous) setting. I have rebooted both the kvm and laptop. I have checked the laptop settings in safe mode (note KVM monitor will display the laptop in safemode). I installed the laptop on a different port on the kvm and still all I get is out of frequency. Any suggestions!

Re: KVM Monitor resolution out of frequency and will not...
Restart your system in a VGA mode (you will find this below Safe Mode, by pressing F8 before windows is loading) This way yours screen resolution will be at the very low frequency then you can change it back to the resolution you like. Eg. 800x600 or 1024x768. Remember to keep your Screen refresh rate lower like 75Mhz

Are you referring to a problem with a Compaq (242697-001) 8-port KVM Switch or on your display (projector?)?
If it is a display problem, start your PC in Safe Mode and go to your Display Properties. In the Settings tab, lower down your screen resolution and color quality. In the Advanced button, Monitor tab, lower down your Screen refresh rates.
Reboot. Do the same and increase settings slowly (by increments) till you get the "out of frequency" message again. Pressing escape would revert you back to the last setting that worked fine.
Hope this be of some help to you, otherwise pls post back with a more detailed description.
This is a fairly common occurrence, typically due to signal loss. The longer the total cable run (monitor to computer connector) the less loss you will have. The longest KVM to computer cable I can use reliably these days is about 12-15? at 1024 x 768 at 32 bit color or 8? for 1280 x 1024 at 32 bit color. Things you can do to reduce loss:
-Reduce the length of the total cable run.
-Increase the quality of the cables used. I only use low loss cables now and have far fewer issues.
-Change the video card, some cards can push a signal a longer distance that others.
-Reduce the resolution/colors the video card displays.
-Try a different monitor or if possible use a different (low loss) cable to connect the monitor to the KVM.
