Time varies greatly. It seems to make no difference if I try to get online in the morning, afternoon or evening. Sometimes the connection just gets lost and I am forced to reset my wireless access point through windows troubleshooting tool.

ISP equipment is fine (as evidenced by my ability to use my other access point). This issue has been occurring for about the past 6 months. And in case you ask, no, I have made no changes to my router software or firmware.

You have posted your work around not the problem.
What activity is going on when you have to reset?
What have you tried to do to fix it?
Is it at the same time everyday?
Is your ISP's equipment working ok?
How long has this been going on?

The only thing that makes sense is thermal issues.Either the power supply is too hot or the router is. Is there adequate ventilation around the router?

Getting error message: Invalid Ip address

This would normally mean that you have assigned the IP address manually but have also given that same IP to another computer and they are fighting about it.

If this is the case then just check your IP allocations and find out which computer is using the same IP and change it to one that is not in use.

It may also mean that your router is trying to use the same IP as your modem

With just your modem connected to the computer

go to the START MENU / RUN then type CMD and press enter.

Now in the black screen type IPCONFIG /ALL

Take note of the numbers esp in the default gateway, that is your modem)

Now with just the router connected by wire do the same thing.

This time the default gateway is your router if it is the same as your modem then you need to alter it in your router,

You haven't given a model so you will have to work this bit out yourself but your are looking for a setting on your router that starts with the same number you got.
If your default router gateway was lets say 192.168.1.1 then that is what you would be looking for. Change the third block so now it reads 192.168.2.1 and save the settings. This would clear any conflict between modem and router.

If you have assigned IP's to computers they would need to be changed to reflect the routers new IP and again you would just change the third block in the allocated IP to a 2

If in doubt read this a couple of times or print it out.

Dropping internet connection

check if this problem is with both wired and wireless computers, if not with the wired..only wireless has problems, check if you have any other wireless device operating in the same frequency of the router..if s, turn off other devices and check b.cos that me interfere your w/ls connection, if wired is having the same problem, connect modem straight to the pc and observe the connection, so that you can isolate problem..
