Zoom MRS 1608 will not power on

Power supply works with my Zoom MRS 1266 but not the 1608; the plug seems loose on the 1608. There is absolutely no sign of life.

I suggest checking to make sure those 2 units can actually use the same adapter and also check the polarity on both to see if they are the same. Most stompbox stuff usually has negative on the center of the socket, instead of positive like other devices. If I spend a little time I could find the manuals and find out for myself but, this was my logical "top of my mind" kind of advice. Those values (volts,mA, and polarity) must be known in order to help you further. I believe it will be 9v, a few 100 mA's, and negative in the center on both but, not sure.

    Hi Joe I have checked and both the 1608 and the 1266 use the same voltage, polarity and current. I noticed that the adapter plug seems loose in the 1608 and am hoping that it is the socket that is faulty (maybe a dry joint or worn earth contact) the details are DC12V, 3A centre live

Here is the manual for that unit, I didn't see anything in there about that except saving and opening files or samples. Hope this helps you.

Try the procedure on page 184 of the owners manual. Heres the link:http://www.zoom.co.jp/archive/English_Manual/E_MRS1608.pdf If it won't completely download keep hitting refresh. I had the same problem downloading. the InitFac will restore the system files but will supposedly not affect user created data. In any case read the whole thing carefully. I don;\'t have one but I downloaded the manual to try and help. Let me know how you make out.

ALWAYS start with the "easy" things 1st. Is the AC outlet on the wall working properly? Is the "wall-wart" power supply working correctly? If no defect is found, check the DC power jack located on the rear of the keyboard. Does it seem to be loose or does moving the power supply jack up/down cause any change? New wall-wart power supplies can be purchased from Radio Shack and usually at a lower price than the original factory replacements.

I HAVE A ZOOM MRS-802 B. IT will not start up. keeps reading HDD eror. Can not scan disc due to this reading pops up after step 1 of BASIC MAintenance Procedure. Does not go to ExtFunc pops back to...
Mine did the same thing. Just by chance we had a universal laptop power supply unit with interchangeable tips made by powertran & my wife said to give it a try. The unit has a display window on it & it reads 16.9 volts when the zoom is running. When I plugged it in I couldn't believe it was going through it's start up menu. On the package it says 15 - 20 volts DC 90 watts & I reckoned it shocked the zoom into working again...well anyway, it worked & the zoom is running again. The power box package cost $89AU that I got at an electronics store.

Hello. I am assuming that you are using the manufacturer supplied mains power supply and not running it from battery (otherwise replace the battery before doing anything else). I have noticed a similar problem occasionally with my Zoom G1XN too - mostly when I have been using it with headphones plugged directly into the pedal. Sometimes gently wiggling the output jack plug seems to have solved the problem - however I have had it occur when using the pedal with an amp too. Next step would be to try using different jack leads (or swapping the ends round) to make sure it is not a problem with poor contacts in the sockets. If this seems to solve the problem a little squirt of switch cleaner in the sockets wouldn't go amiss - but leave it 24 hours to dry out before using again. Do you find it only happens on some patches or on all of them? I have one patch that is absolutely clean (straight through with every effect set at flat/zero). Try that with one patch and see if it still does it and to give you a quick comparison. However, I think there may also be a bit of a problem with the effects processor itself (either in the design or the circuitry) - let's face it the GX1 is a modestly priced unit and they probably keep the price down by using cheap components. My usual solution has been to switch it off and remove all the plugs and start again. This has worked but is kind of annoying if it happens in the middle of a gig or half way through recording a song. Lastly I would try re-calibrating the expression pedal. as follows
  1. Turn the unit off
  2. Hold down the PEDAL ASSIGN button whilst turning on the power/ inserting input jack-plug.
  3. Raise the expression fully and press the STORE key (display should read "UP")
  4. Push the pedal down as far as it will go, until it hits the stop, and then release it (it will return slightly at this point)
  5. Press the STORE button again.
  6. If the display reads "Er" repeat the process from step 3 above.

I have a Zoom 9000 Guitar effects processor, and although I have its original adapter, and although its red light flashes and power is on after plugging in everything, I could not get any sound from my...
I'm a Zoom 9000 owner (since '93, I think) Did you try batteries only? Are you plugging the guitar into the "in / power" jack and not mistakenly using another jack? When you plug in the guitar, in to the Zoom 9000 does the window come on with the settings shown? Sorry, I know some of these are obvious but always the chance of us being human. If all that seems fine, then I would read though a manual to see if maybe it is a setting problem, i.e., sound somehow got inadvertently turned off. If you don't have one, an internet search will lead you to one. Sorry, wish I knew more.

I have a Zoom G2, It has excessive noise. It has the correct power supply and I tried powering it with batteries, but it still produces the loud distorted noise. It worked fine the last time I used it. ...
Check if it might be an intermittent input or output jack by wiggling these. Jackks are notorious for problems. Often the soldering of the jack to the circuit board seperates causing noise.

Zoom H4 does not power up on battery power.
Probably two years too late, but I recently got a used H4 and it was having this same issue. Upon reading the documentation, it seemed as though it required a specific type of AA batteries. If you update the firmware (mine was 1.3) to the latest version (currently 2.4), you can toggle the battery type under the menu (most likely alkaline is what you want). It also added lots of other great features!
