Microwave HV Transformer Melted

Yes! you can, just make sure it is unplugged and discharge with a screwdriver, before you change the transformer, put your digital meter on ohms and put the test leads across the capacitor remembering to unhook the one side to prevent misleading readings, If cap reads .2 ohms or less it is defective, but if readings are infinity or open cap is good, check the high voltage diode the same way.

When the microwave is plugged in but not running there is a buzzing/humming noise. The unit works fine and the buzzing/humming continues when in operation as well.

That noise you hear is loose laminations in the standby/controll transformer. It is no more than a nuisance.
The transformer can be replaced by contacting the manufacturer and browsing for a dealer near you.
Hope that helps.

Contant humming noise, even when not in use have to unplug in order to stop the sound.

The constant humming noise you hear when the microwave is plugged-in but not running is caused by the Low Voltage Transformer, which is located inside the back wall of the outer cabinet on the left side. If the microwave is working properly otherwise, there is no hazard, just the annoying noise.

To access the transformer, the microwave must be taken down and the outer cover removed. The transformer is held to the back wall of the cabinet with four screws, and there are two sets of leads with pull-apart connectors. The noise is the result of 60hz vibration being transmitted to the sheet metal from the transformer which may not have been sufficiently "potted" or otherwise mechanically isolated when manufactured. You can either replace the transformer or try wedging some thin rubber or other material between the transformer and the sheet metal to quiet the noise. Just be careful to not damage the windings!

Why would my microwave be buzzing, I just got it for Christmas and I can't leave it plugged in because it constantly buzzes?

There are loose laminations in the transformer causing the noise. A replacement transformer will stop the noise or indeed re-crimping the cover on the transformer will possibly clear the noise.

VMOC205SS quit heating, it runs but does not heat? What part do I need?

the heating components of a microwave r the diode, magnetron, and transformer. checking a unit plugged in can be dangerous seeing there is about 5000 volts from the step up transformer. if you have a amp probe you can check the amps at the wires powering the transformer. if you have less than 12 amps, and 110 volts at primary side of transformer change the magnetron and diode

Where can I get a HV transformer for Microwave?

I went on-line and found a site that gave answers to similar problems. I found that no power to the the control board usually meant a transformer issue. I checked the leads on the transformer (with a meeter) and found that it was shot. Now I need a replacement transformer, at a reasonable price, or else I will purchase a new Microwave.

Any Whirlpool Microwave Techs out there...Please help a fellow tech

hi mike,

I’m sorry to tell you this but; I wouldn't recommend using a different transformer, even if it's the same size, it could cause serious damage. The HV transformer should only be replaced with the exact replacement part.
