Sharing the printer over network

This printer has only an USB connection that connects to your computer and cannot connect to wireless network directly. You can attach this printer to a wireless printer server/router to enable wireless printing.

SET UP A SHARED NETWORK PRINTER
Any printer that is connected to a computer and is connected on a LAN can be configured so all other computers on the same network can print to this printer. This means the computer with the printer attached to it MUST be booted up at all times when other computers want to access the printer. You need to install the printer driver on the computer and configure it as a Shared printer. The other computers on the network need to add this printer to their computer. Follow these steps to set-up a shared network printer :- 1. Connect the printer to the computer and install the printer driver. 2. Open Printers and Faxes - right click on this printer and click Sharing - click Sharing tab and click Share this printer, and then if you wish you could change the Share name, then click OK 3. Right click on the printer - click Properties - click Print Test Page to confirm printer installation. Follow these steps to configure the computers on your network :- 1. Open Printers and Faxes - click Add a printer - Next - select a network printer, or a printer attached to another computer - Next. 2. Select Browser for a printer - Next 3. Click on and expand the Microsoft Windows Network down to the computer with the printer - Next 4. Select Yes for - Use this printer as the default printer - Next - Finish 5. Right click on the printer - click Properties - click Print Test Page to confirm printer installation.

FILE SHARING BETWEEN COMPUTERS ON A NETWORKBasicallyif you have a wireless router with several laptops and desktop PCs, which canaccess the Internet at the same time, then you have working network withthe laptop and PC.First makesure the laptop and PC have the same Workgroup name(it may already have Workgroup as the Workgroup name, you can change it if you wish). Check the hardware and software settings first

1) Check the Hardware Connection -
a) Power connection to Printer
b) USB Connection from Printer to Computer

2) Checked the Drivers Software
a) XP/Vista = Open the device manager
Click Start - right click on My Computer
Click on Manage
Click on Device Manager
Click on (+) Ports COM & LPT and Check wheater the Printer is listed or not
or
Check for Printer Name which ever you are using is it listed if YES - Check by printing the test Page
if NO - Install the Printer Drivers and then print the Test page

If its a Network Configuration issue


Connecting the USB Printer to network

1) Right click on My computer
2) Click on Properties
3) Click on Computer Name
4) Click on Change (where it says "To rename this computer or Join a domain, Click Change")
5) Give Name to your Work Group
"Type the some Name in the BOX"
6) Click OK and Restart the Computer

** NOW THIS COMPUTER IS A PART OF WORK GROUP **

(settings on Main Computer where the Printer is installed)
7) Now we can share whatever you wana share

8) Open control Panel

9) Open Printer and Faxes right
10) Right click on the Printer Icon and click on Properties

11) Click on Sharing

12) Click on share this printer and *Name the Printer if you want share

13) Click on Apply now this Printer is in Network

Network the Second Computer

13) Go to each computer

1) Click on Start - control panel -
2) Click on Printers and Faxes
3) Click on Add a Printer
4) It will show Welcome to Add Printer Wizard
5) Click on Next
6) Select "A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer
7) Select browse for a Printer and HIT NEXT
8) It will show you the WORK GROUP and when you hit on it it will show you the Printer
9) Click on Next and OK
Its Done the Printer is Shared and you can take a print out.

Note : The Main Computer should On in order to take Print-out

or IF YOU HAVE THE NETWORK PRINTER check the following steps


Adding a new network printer
1) Click on Start
2) Click on Printer and Faxes
3) From the left side of the window - click on Add a Printer
4) It will Pop up a new Screen (Add Printer Wizard Window
5) Click on Next
6) Select Local Printer
and Uncheck Automatically Detect and install my plug and play printer
7) Click on Next
8) Click the DROP-DOWN menu next to Use the following port
and if the Printer Queue is listed,select it and click NEXT


***IF it is not listed in the Menu,
Choose Create a new port
from the Type of the Port list - select Standard TCP/IP Port. Click Next
In the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard window, click Next.
In the Printer Name or IP Address field,
- Type the queue name of your printer and the Port Name field will be automatically filled in
Click Next
Click Finish

IF Required Install the Printer Drivers using the Disk
9) If you are asked whether you want to keep an existing driver, select Replace existing driver, then click Next.
10) In the Printer name field, type the printer's queue name, model name, location and double-sided or single-sided. If this is the printer you will be using most often, select Yes to use this printer as your default printer; otherwise, select No. Click Next.
11) If you are asked whether you wish to share the printer, select Do not share this printer. Click Next.
12) When you are asked whether to print a test page, select No
13) Click Next.
14) Click Finish.

Note : You may have to wait a few seconds for the Add Printer Wizard window to disappear and it may appear frozen.
If you receive a message that a Microsoft digital signature was not found, click Yes to continue the installation.

TEST THE PRINT

To check if the printer is working correctly, go to Start > Printers and Faxes. Right-click on the newly created printer, select Properties and then click on the button for Print Test Page

If this is a network printer. You can reinstall the drivers that came with the printer as a local printer, then go into control panel open the 'printers and faxes' right click on the printer that you reinstalled, 'properties' go to ports tab, select add port, -> 'standard tcp/ip port' -> 'new port' -> next -> put in the ip address for the printer, it will be the scheme of you subnet for example if your ip address for your computer is set to 192.168.1.1 you would use the ip address for the printer port of 192.168.1.2. after that is done press next-> after that you will be set as a network printer. Try to print a test page.

If this does not work, you can install the printer locally on a separte computer, such as your home pc, and make the printer a share. Then simply add the share printer on your laptop. for example; after you install the printer on your home pc, go under control panel, -> right click the printer -> sharing-> enable printer sharing... -> Next -> You will be prompted on the sharing tab-> select 'share this printer' -> type a share name, such as 'Lexmark2' -> click ok. at this point you will see a hand under the printer, showing it is shared.

Note: you will need to get the computer name of the pc that the printer is locally installed, your home pc. for this example lets name the pc 'home' you can find the name of your pc by right clicking on my computer and select properties. go to the computer name tab.
also remember we named the printer share 'lexmark2'

now go to your labtop, go to the control panel and select 'printers and faxes' select add a printer on the right column. a windows will pop up, click next -> select 'A network printer, or printer.....' click on the radio buttion that reads 'Connect to this printer (or to browse.....' should be the 2nd option. this is where you are going to use the computer name and printer name.

put in

\homelexmark2

click next -> then finish

print a test page, from your labtop.
