I have a Mitsubishi XD206U projector in my classroom. The Dell laptop that I had been connecting to it to show DVDs in class has died, and I purchased a Toshiba Satellite L55 series laptop with Windows 8. When I tried to hook up the projector to show a DVD, I got an error message that the output device does not support HDCP. Is there anything I can do to get the projector to show DVDs played from my new laptop? It shows Power Point slideshows and videos that are online just fine.
I would also blame Windows 8 if the movies you played worked before you got the new laptop. To rule this out, connect another laptop (maybe another Dell with the same operating system) to the projector and play an HD-disc on that laptop.
If it works, then you'll know its a compatibility problem with the laptop operating system you're using.

make your pc or laptop start first and then the projector.

Hi terry2421
No this is not the bulb. You will have to get the Mainboard repaired at a service provider. Losing signal and a discolouration showing up is a clear indication of a faulty Mainboard.
Get a quote first , because some service providers overcharge on these sort of repairs. The most you should pay is $150.
go to image in the menu on projected and check rgb should be off

What output are you using? Also, does the laptop have VGA output?
