The P error code on a Xerox XC 1040 copier typically indicates a paper jam or paper feed issue. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
Check for any visible paper jams in the paper tray, the paper path, and the exit area.
Remove any jammed paper and clear any debris from the paper tray and paper path.
Make sure the paper tray is loaded correctly and that the paper is not wrinkled or bent.
Check the paper guides and make sure they are adjusted correctly for the size of paper you are using.
Check the paper sensors and make sure they are clean and not obstructed.
Check the paper feed rollers and make sure they are clean and not worn out.
Try to copy again and see if the issue is resolved.
It's important to note that the P error code could be caused by other issues such as a malfunctioning paper feed assembly or a software issue, if the problem persists after trying these steps, it is advisable to call a technician for further assistance.
Have the machine's manual close by and have the model number and the serial number of the machine when you contact the manufacturer or a technician for further assistance.
Just for any others with this question, I have been plagued with the same problem with my CP205 and CM205 printers, and discovered with the CM205 that it does still have a small scrap of paper left in the end of the paper path, near where it ejects. This can't be seen if you are looking inside the printer from the back door, hence anyone thinks it's clear, but if you open the main top door, by lifting up the control panel, and shine a torch down there, that's where you will probably find the small scrap of paper, which is stoping the printer from working. I managed to remove mine with a set of small tweezers. It would help if the machine could give you a more accurate error message, eg, lift the TOP door and remove paper jam.
Hey, if you're getting the Jam at Document feeder error even though there is no paper jam. First try turning the machine off and back on, if the problem continues you most likely need to replace the DADF assembly (document feeder) part# 004K07270. The part is a little expensive, but you can buy it as an exchange for your bad one from iteminc.com to save you money. Replacing the part is pretty simple, here is a video that shows you how. ">
Step1 Turn the printer off and on to see if it can automatically clear some or all of the jam. Many printers provide an error-code listing on the front panel display for the area where the jam occurred. If your printer shows an error code, be sure and check the printer manual to see if that identifies the area of the printer where the jam occurred. Step 2 Turn off the printer. Step 3 Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper. Step 4 Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge. Step 5 If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it in a bag or away from light to avoid damaging it. Step 6 If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly (see A). The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam. Step 7 If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper (see B). Don't force anything, though. Step 8 Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on. Step 9 If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.
There are several things that can cause a paper jam error, even though there is no paper stuck. The most common is that the paper pickup rollers are worn or dirty, and can't grab paper. Even though there is no paper jammed in the machine, it will show the error message. The solution is to clean the roller with alcohol and a lint-free cloth (don't use paper towels). If the roller is very worn, you will need to replace it.
