I have a Dell Studio laptop. Will power on with either AC adaptor or battery, but will not boot with just battery. Dell advised hard drive problems and reinstallation of Vista system, this seems drastic as boots and works just fine when AC adaptor is plugged in. I could just keep using plugged in,my life is not that active, but it seems a shame not having it work to optimum.
This should have a "battery check" button on the battery itself. Remove the battery and press the button. If it reveals that the battery is not fully charged, or you cannot get it to take full charge, perhaps all that you need is a new battery. If the battery is failing the check the system makes on it at boot, it won't.
Dead Laptop.
Try firstly removing the laptop's
battery as it may be at a critical voltage and the system will not
start because of it. Plug in your ac adaptor and monitor what
happens. Does the power light illuminate? If it does it should then
boot up, if it doesn't, try a known good ac adaptor before going any
further.
If the adaptor is fine then you have a mother board fault
and should contact a dealer/repairer for further advice.
Hope this
helps.
