There is no reset button. UNPLUG THE MIXER Remove the back cover and look for a broken wire, commonly one of the bottom two on either side. If none found you will need to use a multi meter and test circuits. If the machine has done a fair amount of work then check your carbon brushes, one under each black round side cap. Brushes are keyed on one corner, the motor will not run if you put one in the wrong way, you can look in the hole with a torch to see which corner is blocked.

If nothing is working then it is your control switch. Pretty easy to replace and get. Cant remember the site name but if you put in your Kitchenaid model name and serial number it will pull up the site for replacement parts.
I have the same problem with Butterfly Ivory Plus mixer in India.... The mixer went off with over load. I pressed the reset button, but still the mixer wont start. Looks like a common prob with butterfly mixers.
Are you sure the bowl is locked into place? If it is, also check the safety mechanism that the bowl moves in order for the mixer to turn on to ensure that it isn't broken and is moving as the mixer won't turn on if the bowl isn't turning off this safety feature which is probably broken if the mixer start arm won't move.
theadore something is not connected right or something else got disconnected. there is no reset on these mixers. may i ask why you removed the back housing?
