Question about Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook
All of a sudden the device devolped an interesting flaw after working okay for several weeks, each time the eject was pressed or by software automation activated, the device freezes and then vanishes from the machine and that includes the bios, the only way to get it back is in fact to remove the notebooks battery and pull and replace the power wire and then reboot, as far as I can ascertain, the problem may be either caused by the lack of proper drivers for the sata controller on an acer aspire 5100 using that dvd device or quite possibly hardware malfunction, I noticed in the bios that there is no serial number listed for this device when it is working, the acer pheonix bios is also really basic, being used to bioses with all the bells and whistles I failed to see the point of a bios with such a low tweaking capability, but then many laptop bioses are extremely limited. So the firmware for the device may be corrupt? Or there is some kind of electrical surge which shorts out the device when the eject is pressed (which would be a manufacturers job to fix in my opinion) but it is possible that someone out there has come across the same problem and found a solution, if so please reply?
First try downloading the optical drive firmware update and installing it, then try updating your BIOS the same way. Often, this problem is resolved by restoring the operating system as well.

Think the only solution to this problem is to go outside for a cold beer and a smoke.
Then pour sum gasoline on my aspire and light it.
The damn cd-dvd drive has done this thing 3 times now and im using a Xp at the moment so im having problems findin the right drivers.
