It sounds like you may have a broken or inefficient / blocked cooling fan. Check the air filters and make sure it is very clean and dust free. Also listen to hear if the fan is running at what you think is a normal speed - not irregular or start / stop. If this is all ok then it may be an issue on the d.c power supply to the fan - don't spend more money on a bulb until you check this out.

My benQ bp2 120 micro seris projector keeps turning off

One of two issues. One, the unit keep overheating. Common even with my projector. These things should be serviced and cleaned as dust clogs intakes, fans and exhaust ports. Proper venting is essential. If you have the ability, take the unit apart and use compressed air to blow off all circuits, vents and generally all around. Do NOT use high pressure...just the blow off cans will work fine. Second, the lamp could be on it's way out. Check the hours on the lamp counter. Generally, a lamp life that states it is good for 2,000 hours will last about 1,500 as turning the unit on an off eats lamp life.

When unit was turned off last night it "popped". Now it does not come on and the power light flashes at a rate of 1 flasher per second.

the lamp blew. take it out and see if there is shattered glass inside. if there is, replace the lamp and blow the dust out of the projector. the dust keeps in the heat that the projector is trying to expel. the lamp probably overheated and shattered. otherwise, it was at the end of it's life (usually 3000 hours).

sounds like the colorwheel. the bearings are starting to go on it due to excessive dust and heat. since it's a motor, it's bound to wear out eventually. it will need to be replaced. you could buy the part and do it yourself or send it in for repair. either way, try av solutions in ny. they're really good and they're an infocus service center. www.avsolutionsny.com.
the lamps should be good for 2000 hours. if you use it that much per year, three lamps is normal. but it's best to keep the projector clean and free of dust to extend the life of the lamps. dust keeps in the heat that the projector is trying to expell. heat will kill the lamp and possibly overheat other circuits and components. use canned air to blow it out.

before a lamp blows it draws more current than it usually uses, but since it uses dc, it couldn't blow the ac fuse. but if the regulators on the ballast or power supply were bad, it would blow the lamp and draw ac power, possibly blowing the fuse.

My benq projector keeps blowing lamps.

first, blow out any dust with canned air. dust keeps in the heat that the projector is trying to expell. next, don't buy cheap lamps from random websites. you get what you pay for. and make sure you have the correct lamp that the manufacturer states. also make sure there is sufficient space around the projector. the vents cannot be blocked. lastly, reset the settings to factory default. many times there is a low power/full power setting. the fans go on full on high power. there should be at least 2 fans. one for the lamp, one for the optical engine. may be one for the power supply. if the one near the lamp is not blowing much, replace it.

Lamp will not stay on more that a minute or so. Why? All of the fans are working and none of the vents are clogged but it is like a thermal switch shuts the lamp off.

if the projector is overheating, it will shut down. blow out the projector with canned air. the dust keeps in the heat that the fans are trying to expell. if it has shut down from heat to often, you'll need to replace the thermosensor. if you are not sure it's temp related, check the lamp for bulges and black spots. replace lamp if necessary.
