Belkin F5D77230-4 - connecting to modem

I'm trying to set-up a wireless connection on my laptop - have followed the installation guide but when it says to connect my modem to the wireless router I'm stuck as the cable and connections on my modem are USB but the Belkin Router only has connections for 'ethernet' type cables.  Do I have a cable missing? Is there something I need to do differently or an adaptor I need to buy?

Thanks..

Hi,

It would seem that:
Your modem has only USB output;
Your Router has only Ethernet input with WiFi & 4 LAN port outputs; and
You want your laptop to be access the Internet through wireless connection.

There are USB to Ethernet converter/adapter, an example is shown here.

There are on the otherhand, comparable modems to what you have that provides both a USB and an Ethernet output such as the ProLink H9000 shown here .

Perhaps your best course of action is give your provider first a call and see if you can require them to replace your modem with another model/version, one that has an Ethernet output or a combination.

Alternately, a way can be configured if you have a desktop that has both a USB and Ethernet that we can set up as Gateway (but this is the long method).

Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need further information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Am i being thick? does each provider have their own type of router?? im trying to connect a d-link 615 using virgin, help please? havent got the disc for router and cant access 192.168.01 to download...

You need to connect your D-Link to a DSL or Cable modem. The ISP usually provides this modem and the configuration settings for the modem so you can connect to the Internet. To test your Internet connection connect a LAN cable from your computer to the modem and then open a browser. If you can coinnect to the Internet then you can then connect the D-Link to the modem and configure the D-Link for wireless settings so you can connect your computer/laptop to the Internet using a wireless connection.

Connect a LAN cable from the D-Link to your laptop/computer'sLAN port, open the browser on your laptop/computer and enter the D-Link'sconfiguration URL..
http://192.168.0.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = blank (just press Enter) You can now change the default password.
You can now configure the wireless settings. Now configure the wireless card in your computer/laptop withthe router's wireless settings.
To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

DSL line disconnects on WRT54GS only

Try to change the LAN IP address of your router to 192.168.2.1 by accessing the router's Setup page. You also need to set your Westell modem to "full-bridge mode". You need to ask assistance from your ISP to bridge the modem. After that, set-up the Linksys router to PPPoE then power cycle it.
