Getting opc fail message

You probably need to go into the menu structure and find the resets menu. It could be under machine info or maintenance. When you have found the reset menu or parts life, you should be able to reset the OPC Belt.

OPC stands for Optimum Power Calibration. basically, it's a small test to write on the media and read it back for self calibration of the laser power.

I'd try different blank discs to see if it's sensitive to some. Of course they recommend only Philips brand but most major brands should work. Sometimes the "times x" recording rating needs to be higher or lower.

You can also try to turn unit on at least 30 minutes or more before use (this seems to work best for me)

The bottom line is that certain media and certain writers just don't get along, so there are no permanent "Fix" for this issue as every CD recording device encounters such once in a while.

Here's a work around for OPC FAIL on cdrw 5000 -

method 1: turn unit on at least 30 minutes or more before use (this seems to work best for me)

method 2: run OPC on an old cd that always works - after OPC passes, remove old cd and insert new CD (you only get 99 OPC runs per disc)

-or use a combination of the two methods

I've always used TDK and I recently bought a new batch and they stopped working. The old ones still work everytime. I don't know enough about the system to guess what the difference is.

side note: CDRW 2000 will finalise discs from the cdrw 5000 but not the other way around.

To reset on this machine you press the 3 and 9 together and scroll thru the options to reset. Unable to print without an error code doesn't tell me where your error might be.

Try turning the machine off and on again.. it sounds like a memory problem..

If that fails give the fax a good blow in where the paper goes in.

Look at the OPC belt edges, there's a shiny spot that passes thru a sensor, a can of air should blow out the sensor, carefully! When the sensor can't see the timing spot you get that error. You may have to replace the OPC since companies are imbedding a chip that tells the machine when they're used up.

Perhaps your OPC belt is at the end of its life and needs replacing

i had this error, it ended up being the opc unit, it tends to drift and then the optical sensor does not line up, give this general error , we managed to get one replaced under warranty, but our second printer suffered the same, next your fuser will fail......

Unistall it and reinstall it. If that fails....how old is the PC and whens the last time you had it serviced?
