It's been so long since I've udes CD8 but I would say it won't support exporting pdf. If I don't remember wrong I exported file as postscript file (*.ps) and then used Adobe Distiller to create pdf-files. But there might have been a trick or a two to notice for correct output :)

I have seen this under XP SP3. The following solved the problem for me.

Install Corel 8 from the CD. Reboot.

Get the 369 and 433 upgrades from the Corel FTP site. (Those upgrades are no longer available on the web site, but there is a pointer to the FTP site on the "Updates and Patches" page).

Apply the 369 patches. Doesnt matter what version the CD is -- the patches check to see if they need to be applied. Reboot.

Apply the 433 patches. Reboot.

Start the XP Compatibility tool. Make the settings for PhotoPaint and Draw "Windows 2000", "No XP Themes." Reboot

In order to save files as a PDF natively on your machine, you need to purchase Adobe Acrobat software.

1.) Did you paste the fonts into a text box in Corel? Sometimes this works better than importing.
2.) try to copy all of the text from Word and then paste into a text box in Corel
3.)Make sure you answer yes to the "maintain fonts and formatting" question when pasting text into text box in Corel
4.) After pasting text, Save the Corel file!
