SOURCE: I get an error message that says

It means that the DVD Recorder thinks that the DV or Digital 8 camcorder is not connected to the iLink / Firewire connector. Check you have everything connected properly or if you want to record a different way there may be a memory option that allows you to change the way the unit is expecting to receive a signal. The DV/D8 just means DV or Digital8 which are 2 standards in video recording with different types of tape. The specific interface here is an iLink interface specific to Sony to allow control of the recording interface remotely. It is also possible that your iLink or firewire connected device is not compatible with this Sony model....

I just bought a sony DVD recorder, on input 3, it comes up "DV/D8 device is not connected". What is a "DV/D8 device"??? What can I do to fix the problem???

DV/D8 means Digital Video/Digital 8 which is a digital camcorder or digital 8mm format camcorder. If you connect this type of camcorder to the DVD recorder, input 3 is where it would connect but if you are not using a camcorder connection you can just ignore the message, its not a "problem".

Can not record. When I press record I get a message " can not connect with the DV/D8 Device. Have never had any problems before recording

If you are recording from a digital video camera you should be using the DV-IN jack(that's why you get the dv/d8 error). If you are just trying to record a show from a cablr/sat channel then you need to select the correct input for the device you are trying to record from(vid1,vid2,dvin etc). you can download a service mnaual from sony.com if you are in need of one.

I'm getting a message "Camcorder not connected. I can't program any recordings

When this recorder reads 'not connected to camcorder' you are simply accessing the recorder's 'DV' input on the front panel of recorder. This 'DV' input is used with DV Camcorders, thus the message.

Simply hit the 'AUX' button on the remote control to access the recorders other inputs. It will cycle between-TUNER>>AV1>>AV2>>DV.

Depending on what you want to access or view and where they are hooked up to the recorder. The "Tuner" will access either your over the air digital channels or your basic cable channels when hooked up through the 'UHF/VHF' input on the rear panel.AV1 is input 1 on the back of the recorder. AV2 is the input on the front of the recorder. DV allows for a Digital Video Camcorder to be hooked up to recorder using a 'Firewire'.

Convert my canon es900 video to dvd

If you have a video card that has a video in port, plug in your 8mm camcorder and capture the movie. Depending on the quality you save it as determines the size of the file.
This is the simplest way in leiu of paying to have it done or "projecting" the image onto another media physically.
There are machines designed to do this of course but they're not cheap. If you know someone with a Digital8 camcorder. Sony D8 backward support V8 and Hi8, so you can just simply insert the V8/Hi8 tapes into the D8 camcorder, then transer them to computer in DV format through firewire cable.

Panasonic NV GS 400 mainboard problem

What he probably means is that the IC that "Drives" the "Port' has been damaged or destroyed, a very common problem. Due to the manufacturing method, IE: Surface mount compnentry, there simply aint no "Simple Soldering problem" fix, at all... the actual IC, must be replaced... but this isn't actually possible..(well technicaly it is possible, but real hard to do) so hence the only other "Fix", a board replacement. Although ya DV outlet is kaput... If there is another output? say an A/V out? could you not use that as a work arround?

Failed to record

Need to connect both the 3-prong AV adapter *and* the firewire cord. The firewire connect alone does not work, and the 3-prong AV cord alone does not work. But connect both cords to the two devices, and it seems to work. 15 minutes and counting... Hope this helps someone.
