Broken key in dead bolt - Amerock Hardware & Accessories

1 Answer

If you can take the lock off the door push a small metal piece inside the lock from the back to push out the broken key. If unable to take it off, get an old windshield wiper, remove the stainless steel supports from the wiper (long skinny piece of metalt holding rubber blades in place). Grind or file an angled tooth into the end of one. Insert into lock (tooth down) so it catches on the teeht of ghe broken key, pull rod and key out.

Have a rainbow power nozzle model pn-2e needs key to open where can I get one

Try using a hex key, Can't see the bolt but most bolts can be loosened using a hex key close to the size of special keys.

How do i remove a broken harmonic balancer bolt in my 1999 mitisubisii montero sport

are we talking about one of the small bolts that hold a belt pully onto the balancer? Or the large bolt in the middle that holds the balancer to the crank? Either one will be the same procedure, but if it is a small bolt and proves troublesome to get to, you can always remove the balancer and take it to a machine shop to aide you in the removal. If it is the main bolt in the crank shaft you will have to do it in place.
You will need a good sharp center punch and hammer to ding the exact center of the broken bolt. Then a good drill bit and drill set on slow (you drill too fast and you generate too much heat you just accomplish work hardening the broken bolt and dulling the bit.) anyway, you will also need a bolt extractor. Make sure your drill bit is the right size for the extractor and the extractor is the right size for the bit. Punch the dead center of the bolt and start drilling you will want some high temp oil to lube the bit and keep it cool while drilling, you also need to make sure that you hold the drill at a right angle and keep it straight all of the way in until it is deep enough for the extractor to grab the inside of the hole you have made. Strike the extractor solidly with your hammer to set it and cross fingers that when you try to back the broken bolt out it moves. If this fails you might need to completely drill the hole larger and install an insert, or heli-coil to repair the hole.

Schlage dead bolt key spins

Remove the lock from the door and make sure the tailpiece of the key cylinder is still attached. There is a retainer cap that screws on the back, to hold the tailpiece. It might have come loose or been broken. This is an unusual problem if the lock was properly assembled and installed.

The Schlage dead bolt is locked in and will not open with the outside key. I have no directions on how to remove the bolt flange from the inside. The small hole does not look like an allen wrench set...

Remove the entire knob assembly from the inside and pull it srtaight out. The metal linkage going from the lock to the knob/deadbolt is likely broken.

The deadbolt may very free inside the deadbolt hole... This system is low torque and a over torque clutch may slip if the dead bolt it's not completely free inside the deadbolt hole... Also, if you try to open the door before to unlock it, you may block the deadbolt... take care to unlock the door before open it. to be sure that the dead lock is ok, you can turn the manual knob and be sure is turning very very easily.

Also are you no that POWERBOLT is a 3 codes memory? go to that link to see more info about that :

Something is broken inside ignition switch housing.

The ignition crank shaft is broken inside the Steering Column Lock Assy. You will need to buy a new assy (cost appr. $202.21) and 2 steering lock bolts (cost appr. $4.96 ea) at a Toyota or Lexus dealer. Call either dealer for best price and availability. To replace you'll need to remove the black snap-on panel below speedometer then remove the screws securing the driver side dash. Behind the dash is a steel plate. Remove that and remove the steering column covers by turning the steering wheel to access the screws. You'll see that the SCLA is secured by 2 break-away bolt (this is an anti-theft feature). Use a dremel tool with cutting disc to make a notch in the screw head to remove with a flathead screwdriver. If this doesn't work your other option is to cut the bolts where the assy bolts together. Remove the broken SCLA and remove the key FOB and install into new SCLA. If your mechanically incline this should take about 2-3 hrs. and save you $300-400 in labor cost. Part numbers are same at Toyota and Lexus dealers.

Steering Column Lock Assy: 45280-60510

Steering Lock Bolt: 45897-12020 (need qty. 2)
