But the picture through the viewfinder is clear. Thought it was a bad CCD issue, but this camera is not on the recall list. Any suggestions?
Still I think your CCD or CMOS sensor is damaged. The viewfinder, is just a set of lenses, where you can see through. It has no connection with the sensor. These type of camera's also use the sensor to focus. The sensor needs things with some contrast, where it should focus. But when the sensor is not working correct, the camera can't focus, or take a sharp picture. On your screen you just see what the sensor can record. Nothing more, nothing less.
I don't think it is worth repairing the camera, because this will cost more than you pay for a new camera, with better specs.
Sorry I can't help you with this.

I have solved the problem with an empiricist method:
I take off the battery.
I unscrew all the visible screw ( be careful to the varius size and position)
I take away the back part ( the one with "10X" printed)
I separate of little millimeters the two side of the boby, but i don't try to completely open the machine.
I insert the 4 battery an try to turn on .
Without a logic explanation the lcd open again .
Peraphs the 2,3 millimeters of space let the pastic cover to be unlocked.
I screw all the screw and the machine is all right again!
I know i'm very lucky!
p.s. : sorry for my "italian" english

You're not alone. It's an epidemic. With some people it lasted only about 8 flips between LCD and viewfinder. It's especialy a problem with the Z series. If you still can, send it for repair on warranty, otherwise you'll either have to live with it or find a place that can handle this repair. Good luck

Further research indicates it might be an autofocus issue. Noise coming from the camera sounds like it is working hard to focus, but it just can't.
