If you printer is connected to a computer
try printing a cartridge alignment sheet from the
printer properties, you will find it under the maintenance tab

also you may try taking out all the cartridges
turning off the printer
turn it on
and one by one put the cartridge back
and then let it initialise
try it and let me know if that helps

Did you use a HP cartridge? If not you will always get the error message. If you used a HP cartridge and got the error message try this. Remove the cartridge you changed. Reinstall it. Unplug the printer. Wait 2 minutes and plug it back in.

Will not print. says code 2200 just replaced black carterage

Power off the All-In-One (AIO) off and remove the power supply from the back of the unit. Wait 30 seconds. Then reinsert the power supply and power the AIO on.
Did the error message return?
Yes: Continue to step 2.
No: Attempt a test scan. If the error message does not reappear, the error is resolved. 2
Power off the AIO and remove the power supply from the back of the unit. Open the scanner cover and check the scanner glass for cracks and the scanner casing for cracks. Close the scanner lid. Open the top cover of the AIO. Using the carrier belt, move the cartridge carrier to the middle of the unit. Remove both cartridges, close the top cover, reinsert the power supply, and power the AIO on.
Did the error message return?
Yes: Continue to Contacting Lexmark.
No: Continue to step 3. 3
Power off the AIO and remove the power supply from the back of the unit. Open the top cover of the AIO. Using the carrier belt, move the cartridge carrier to the middle of the unit. Insert the color cartridge, close the top cover, reinsert the power supply, and power on the AIO.
Did the error message return?
Yes: Repeat step 3 with another color cartridge. If the printer fails again, continue to step 4.
No: Repeat step 3 and install the black / photo cartridge. If both cartridges are installed, attempt a test scan. If the error message does not reappear, the error is resolved. 4

No: Install the color cartridge. If the printer fails, continue to Contacting Lexmark. If the error message does not appear with both cartridges installed, attempt a test scan. If the error message does not reappear, the error is resolved. the 2200 error is a scanner error means the scanner motor failed to initialize. lexmark recommends that you unplug the unit remove the power supply wait a couple of minute reinstall the p/s and power the unit back up. step to is repeat step one but us the belt to move the scanner carriage to the middle and power it up.
on top of this i would inspect the guide bars for dirt build up and clean them if need be. one thing to consider the ccd knows that it has reached home by the reflecting of the light to the carriage home photo cell within the scanner itself. this light is reeflected back off of the mirrors inside of the ccd. dust on these mirrirs will prevent the photo cell from nowing where home is. these can be cleaned with q-tips

plz rate the solution

Display screen says: door/covers open close covers of relay unit??

I believe the "relay Unit" on that machine is the section that transports copies to either the finisher (if installed) or the exit tray on the LEFT side of that machine. Sometimes neither of these units are present, but the relay unit may still be installed.
There are 2 flip up covers on that section (left and right), and you will probably see that one of them (usually the left one) has come unclipped, or perhaps the plastic clip that holds it closed is broken. If you flip up this unit. You will see a black button at the back end that is engaged when ther unit is closed. If you simply pree this button with your finger, hopefully the message will go away - this may at least help you troubleshoot what is causing the "cover open" message). Even if the clip is broken, it is often just a matter of seating the unit correctly so that the switch is engaged when the unit is closed. There is also the same switch on the right cover that could be causing the problem, but this cover doesn't sem to get damged as often.
I hope this helps. Please let me know.

Error message: Service error 5100 on my new Canon MP160 Printer

no prob try -- As a technician, I have worked on tons of printers. This particular error had stumped me for a while, but I finally found the cause. As others had pointed out before, it can have alot to do with some obstruction in the print path, the gears, or ink on the clear plastic encoder strip. You're on the right track - I found the the purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) was not lubricated well enough from factory. If you lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps) the mechanism can now slide more freely, and the unit can park the head properly without giving you the dreaded head homing error 5100 (or E-2-2 on the LCD display) Keep in mind that this repair will probably require you to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism. There are two screws behind the printer, and two in front for each corrosponding side panel (the front screws are behind the grey front panel of the printer - open the top cover to see the clips which hold the front cover on) Hope this helps some of you out.

The Error says "Cover Open Front" but it is not open

Most printers have a plastic pin on all of the covers that pushes a switch when it is closed. This then sends a signal to the printer telling it "I'm closed".

Probably the pin is broken off (quite by accident I'm sure). A solution is to push a piece of paper in the hole where the pin is, closing the switch, to fool the printer into thinking that the cover is closed. You can try this by pushing a pen point into the hole to see if the message goes out. (Don't forget to remove the paper when you open the cover. The switch is there to keep things out of the mechanism while it is running. May not hurt you but will damage the printer mechanics irreparably.)

Anything else is an error with the printer software and processor and can't be fixed easily.

Error Message

There is usually a small tongue on the card cover that engages either a switch or some other device to detect if the cover is open.
Check that it is not broken or that the sensor is not damaged etc.
Hope this helps...

Error mesage

No solution, but I have the same problem. THe printer starts up fine, I hear no grinding noises or other "funny" nioses, and then displays no error message... UNTIL I ask it to print. Then I get a message that says, "Pls (please) Open Cover".

I open the cover and it says "Please Close Cover".

I close the cover and it says, "Please Open Cover"

and this happens forever!

Does anyone have any ideas? Can anyone help me?

Printer cover open error message

I had that problem too.

Unplug the printer.
Hold the printer cover open while you plug in the printer.
Then wait for the printer to power on while still holding the cover open.
Then close the cover.
The buttons should work and th error message should be gone.

It worked for me.
