Recording from an external hard-disk to a DMR

Dear Sir or Madam, I have just purchased the DMR-BST835EG Blu-Ray Recorder, which has many attractive features. In fact, I also recommended this product to a friend of mine. My prime intention is to transfer some Internet downloaded .MKV-HD and .MP4-HD movies, presently stored on a Buffalo USB-powered external hard-disk, onto the Panasonic recorder's internal (1TB) hard-disk. However, after registering the said USB-HDD on the DMR, its driver is no longer recognized on my computer...and it has to be re-formatted via the PC, with the result that the Blu-Ray recorder again refuses to copy video files from it. What can I do? This article (the DMR) was purchased, for over EUR 600, from EBay, mainly for the above-stated purpose, repeat: copying the HD films, presently kept on external hard-disks, onto the Panasonic recorder (so as to transfer the files onto Blu-Ray discs later on). Please treat as urgent, as I would like to start using the Panasonic article accordingly, and my friend also needs this information before buying the DMR-BST835EG (too). I earnestly await your reply. Thanks in anticipation for your time and attention. Best regards, Ivan Micallef P.S.: Is there some firmware update which could enable the USB-HDD >> HDD (1 Terabyte) recording ? This is an option which should be possible, also according to the DMR's "Copy Video" menu. ; According to various website blogs, many other clients are facing the same problem - what we are askingfor is for the elimination of the USB-HDD registration request. ; Preferably, the external hard-disk accepted/recognized by the Panasonic DMR should remain in the NTFS format and not changed to the FAT32 system. Thanks again.

Dear All, Thank you so much for your kind interest in my problem. The Japanese Customer Service staff, who deal with Panasonic related matters, are recommending the use of a few Buffalo and Western Digital USB external drives, however they only mention the recording from the DMR's internal memory to the portable hard-disks. What I wish to do is actually the other way round, i.e. transfer the .MP4 & .MKV videos from the USB HDD to the Panasonic recorder. Then, I hopefully could copy the same video files to blu-ray discs. Do you think that buying another external disk drive would solve this issue. The fact is that after having paid over 600 Euros for the DMR-BST835EG, I am a bit broke right now... and the suggested Buffalo storage device costs another 110 Euros + shipping expenses. Once again, thank you for your precious help. Best regards, Ivan

Wow. I just scanned the manuals. I have no idea why you would buy this product as it is sooo complicated and does way too many things. If you have a problem with one part all the parts are affected.
    I wish you luck.

SOURCE: error copying file or folder

One of the most important yet overlooked elements of PC maintenance is data backup. If you do not perform regular backups, chances are your productivity will eventually suffer from data losses or a failed Windows installation.

All versions of Windows after 3.1 ship with a free backup utility called Microsoft Backup. It is not the best backup program available, but it may be sufficient for your needs. (Backup is better in later versions of Windows. Microsoft recommends Win98/Me users purchase a third-party utility.) If you want more control over your backups, consider purchasing a third-party program.

Backup is part of the System Tools utility. However, Setup does not install it by default in Win98/Me/XP Home. If you cannot locate Backup, visit the Microsoft support site and query for article No. 152561 (Win98), No. 264541 (WinMe), or No. 302894 (WinXP Home).

In Win98/Me, click Start, select Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and click Backup. To create and run a backup, click the Create A New Backup Job radio button and click OK. Follow the prompts to create a full or partial backup. If you want to create a backup set and run it later or run an existing backup set, open Backup and click the Open An Existing Backup Job radio button and click OK. You can now access the main Backup dialog box.

In Win2000/XP, navigate to the System Tools utility and select Backup. Click the Backup Wizard button. If you do not see a Backup Wizard button, click the Welcome tab. In WinXP, the wizard will start automatically if you are in wizard mode. Follow the prompts to create your backup set.

When you reach the last dialog box, Completing The Backup Wizard, you can click the Advanced button to create a backup schedule (this option is not available in Win98/Me). When you reach the When To Back Up dialog box, select the Later radio button and click the Set Schedule button. Perform data backups on a schedule that is appropriate to the importance of your files (once a week is a common timeframe). You should also perform a system backup at least once a month.

If you do not want to use the wizard, or you are working with an existing backup, open Backup and click the Backup tab to access the main Backup dialog box.

Hello there!

The reason why you cant print your documents straight from your external drive is because the printer software was installed on your PC and thats were its active ie the CPU can give a comand easily.

SOURCE: i accidentally kicked my 1tb buffalo external hard

First try a different usb cable. The cable or the cable connectors may have been damaged as a result of the fall.
If that doesn't work and you are certain that your PC does not recognize the drive, then It appears to me that the fall damaged the delicate mechanical devices inside the drive and you will have to replace it.

Hard drives cannot withstand rough handling. If a hard drive is only dropped about 1 or 2 feet and it lands on a soft surface such as a carpet it MAY survive the fall. But if one falls from a higher elevation, (say 6 feet) onto a hard surfaced floor, it's almost a sure bet that the drive's internal mechanisms are permanently damaged.

To find out for sure, take it to a PC technician and have it tested. It should only cost you a few dollars.

I want to copy an external hard-disk's HD contents onto a Panasonic Blu Ray Recorder

You have to search on internet for drivers which can support your computer and your Panasonic recorder. If this cannot help you to solve the issue, then you have to get help from your friends or relatives who have a different laptop from your laptop or computer. You can download those drivers in your hard drive and install in your computer.

How to i get access to the lens on my Panasonic DMR-ES10EB DVD recorder to clean it?

The safe way is to purchase a cleaning disk. It has two brushes on a disk that you put in the unit for a short time. You can buy them on line or at any electronics store.

Panasonic DMR-E85H

No VCR required - A VCR is a video cassette recorder, which requires a video cassette in order to record source material. A DVD recorder, requires DVD discs and this model in particular has a built in hard drive so you don't even need discs either, unless you plan to share recordings with others. All you need is a 'feed' / 'source' from an external aerial like Cable or Sky etc.
Does that help?
