Dyson(Animal) motor making high pitched noise. Could this be the internal belt getting ready to cut loose, or are there bearings in the motor that are wore out? I've had this vacuum since 2007ish.
Should I record it's sound? Can I post that on here? youtube link or something?Should I record it's sound? Can I post that on here? youtube link or something?

Re: Dyson motor making high pitched noise. Is this
Most likely, there's something in the dirt tube. Ic could be something like a piece of paper or cellophane, vibrating from the air going over it. without hearing it, a high pitch noise could be different things.

Replacing the brushroll and belt usually takes care of it unless the motor is bad. Remove the belt tensioner. Only a few models had it and Dyson determined it isn't needed.
Not sure if this will help but mine sometimes make a loud noise as well and its usually due to hairs stuck UNDER the belt in the motor area. Get some sharp skinny scissors and long skinny pliers and get under that belt, cut the hairs and use the pliers to pull out those hairs. That noise is usually because too much hairs stuck under the thing that turns the belt and the belt cant spin so it makes a lot of noise. When i do this it solves the problem of noise, but eventually hairs will collect in there again and make the noise again so i just take the hairs out again and problem solved.
It is probably the brush roll motor making the noise. Remove the brush roll & belt and turn both motors on. If you do not hear the noise when both motors are running the noise is likely coming from the brush roll

the high pitched whining is most likely the belt and it stops when you put the handle up because the roller bar is not engaged when you put up the handle. If it is the belt making that noise it will most likely break soon and you will need to put a new one on. Hope this helped...good luck
