I have had my 1610 for close to a couple years had been great, but lately I have had a black line running through the middle of my scans. I have tried reseting to factory defaults and unplugging it too.

Re: Black Line in scans
You'll have to take it apart and get at the scanning unit (the little light that moves back and forth. They don't make a manual for that (that I can find) so it'll be a bear to figure out.
But once you get it apart, clean the scanner (lights) and any mirrors you can find. Then clean the glass. And look at where the scanner rests when you're not using the copier. On the underside of the glass, just above this point, you'll see a white strip. Make sure it's clean.
Oh...this is assuming that it only happens with copies and not with computer prints.

Check your flat bed and Document feeder scanning glass need to be clean, if any dot or dust in scanning glass of document feeder it will appear a line, check this points first 1- Check printouts from computer or FAX if it is clean problem in scanning section 2- Check using Copying a blank paper using only Flatbed if it prints without any line its problem from document feeder Scanning glass So solution is clean the Document feeder scanning glass using wet cloth, note careful about wet cloth switch off the machine and clean it
NO, I DID NOT GET IT FIXED. YOU TOLD ME TO SCAN SOMETHING TO THE PC, WHICH I DID. SENT PAGE TO MICROSOFT WORD AND THE BLACK LINE WAS STILL THERE. I BELIEVE MY SOLUTION IS TO JUNK THIS THING AND BUY ANOTHER.
This is usually a bad elect capasitor or a bad solder connection on the vertical IC, The capasitors will be close to the vert chip..Sometimes you can clear problem with a light tap on the TV, if so then suspect bad solder.
That sounds like simple ring-cracks in the vertical circuit, most likely the vertical Ic itself... On the printed circuit side of the Tv look at the vertical Ic and examine it carefully under some magnification where each pin of the Ic solders to the board. See if you can find any cracks in those solder connections.
Well I hate to give out bad news but if that line is in the exact same location on every scan it means that the element (the scanning light) has failed. Sorry that I could not earn a FixYa for you. If you need to replace the scanner I have had excellent luck with Epson scanners. Here is a link to a few on Amazon.com for refrence. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias%3Daps &field-keywords=epson+scanner&x=0&y=0 Just copy the link and paste it into your web browser. there are also some very good all in one options. I have had this one for a year and it works well: http://www.amazon.com/C7280-Photosmart-All-Printer-CC567A /dp/B000UY6M2G/ref=pd_bbs_sr_4?ie=UTF8&s=office-products &qid=1210270089&sr=8-4
