If you take all the drawers out of the freezer - you will find 8 screws with 'bolt type' heads - 2 top, 4 at sides and 2 to the bottom.
Turn the power off. Undo all these screws and remove the rear panel. You will notice the 'gubbins' of the freezer. At the bottom you should notice there is a shaped plate with some piping running around and then up into the cooling 'radiator'. Towards the middle left of the plate there should be a hole - this is the drain hole. Is it blocked with a 'slug' of ice! Yes is my guess. This needs defrosting as will the rear panel you took out by any guess.
I did ours this morning as the fridge freezer was making a heck of a racket. Took about 30 minutes with the wife's hairdryer - and I'm no expert.
I just enjoy the fact I'd probably saved £50 plus on a callout.
Excellent advice. Thank you. My daughter was very impressed with my DIY skills - but when it recurred a few weeks later she was not so sure. Once again I removed the ice plug and poked a wire down the tube to check it was clear - all OK. So why did it recur so soon? To investigate further I pulled the fridge freezer away from the wall so I could access the back -and found the answer! The black tube ends in a fancy shaped tray. Two screws held it in place but were easy to remove. The tray had a collection of gunge and that was blocking the drain pipe. 5 minutes to clean it and it should be OK now for another 7 years. Status with daughter recovered!
Had this happen with a hotpoint FF187E, removed screws that hold the rear cover on, inside the freezer compartment, and found another cover which just pulled out as well. The frozen drainage hole was discovered and soon defrosted using a hair dryer. Checked rear of fridge to make sure the drainage pipe wasn't blocked where it went into drip tray, all ok.

Sounds like it could be a blocked drainage hole. (Most modern fridges/freezers allow any condensation that builds up inside to drain out into an external evaporation pan.) Have a look at the rear inside wall of the fridge, and see if you can see something that looks like a drainage channel/hole. If there is one, make sure it is clear (a piece of flexible wire is ideal to do this.) Hope this helps.
My hotpoint FFA91 freezer is leaking water from the drain hole on the door so when you open the door a line of water follows, also under the bottom draw its iced up.does anyone know why this happens or how to fix it?
This happened to me with our FFA90. As in the above post I took al the food and drawers out of the Freezer compartment and unscrewed the plate at the back of the freezer. There was a large biuld up of ice on the back of the plate just below the fan hole (where water accumulated on the foam/foil insulation and froze. From time to time this build up would stop the fan and you could hear the blades striking the ice. I used to bang the plate and it would fall away - problem soved for a time.
From the back of the unit unscrew the evaporation tank which sits above the motor and remove it. On the right hand side there is a rubber pipe that connects to the drain in the base of the freezer. Mine was blocked at the bottom and the water had frozen into a bung in the drain causing water to back up and overflow into the bottom freezer shelf. Clean the tray clean the pipe hairdryer the hole to remove the ice bung. Leave the inside of the freezer to defrost then reassemble. I am no expert but I now have a working fridge freezer.
