SOURCE: I am in need to install recovery console
Here's How:
Boot From the Windows XP CD
To enter Recovery Console in Windows XP, you will need to boot from the Windows XP CD.
Press R to Enter Recovery Console
When the Windows XP Professional/Home Setup screen appears, press R to enter Recovery Console.
Choose the Windows Installation
The Recovery Console
is now loading but needs to know which Windows installation to access.
Most users only have a single Windows XP installation so the choice is
usually clear.
To the Which Windows installation would you like to log onto question, press 1 and then Enter.
Enter the Administrator Password
The Recovery Console
now needs to know the administrator password for this Windows XP
installation. Unless you are using a PC in a sizable business network,
the administrator password is most likely the same password you use to
access Windows XP on a daily basis.
To the Type the Administrator password request, enter the password and press Enter.
Note: If you do not have a password or Windows XP normally starts without asking for one, simply press Enter.
Make Necessary Changes in Windows XP Recovery Console
The Recovery Console is now fully loaded and the cursor should be sitting at the command prompt, ready for input, as shown in the screen shot above.
Make any changes necessary in the Windows XP Recovery Console. When complete, take out the Windows XP CD and type exit to restart the computer.

bootcfg /rebuild
Type Y in response to this question and press Enter.
This is the name of the operating system. For example, type Windows XP Professional or Windows XP Home Edition and press Enter.
Type /Fastdetect here and press Enter.
Assuming that a missing or corrupt boot.ini file was your only issue, Windows XP should now start normally.

Can you reboot and get into windows or is now corrupt?
What do you mean by 'uninstalled XP'??
You cant uninstall it unless you format the drive, in which case the recovery discs are now probably useless as they rely on a folder on the HDD called i386.
Recovery discs normally dont have the OS on them, they rely on the I386 folder to gather info about the computer and then restores it to the state when it was new.
If you can acess the system, reboot and go into the bios and change the boot sequence to CD, then insert the first recovery disc. then save the settings and the computer will reboot and start the recovery process again, this should clear up the error.
If it does not it will be because the i386 folder is missing in which case you can either explore the recovery discs for it or you will have to buy a copy of Windows XP.

At this point, you can try to clean your disk # 4 and see what happen,
or try to make a copy of disk # 4 (if you can copy the disk) and try again.
or
1) Contact your customer support and ask for a new set of disks.(or only # 4)
or
2) Boot your computer with another OS disk (win XP)
or
3) Boot your computer with some utility disk

Hi edysica , I want to help you with your problem, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? What happened that made you decide to do a system recovery?
It is an old computer that I was not using for a long time, so I just wanted to start from scratch.
Do you think that at this point instead of trying to fix the Windows XP system recovery error, I could clean install the Windows 7? Are the parameters of Compaq Presario SR1850NX , good enough to install Windows 7?
What would you do in this situation?
I get this error: "SW Build Id different from Id on recovery media"... a checke it and the BID is the same on the computer and the recovery disks. Is there a way to fix it?
