Epson Stylus CX6400 not printing

My Epson printer which worked perfectly until recently , now doesnt even start up properly and a grinding noise comes from the unit (seems to be the belt that pulls the printing section along the rail). The message displays nothing useful - just to call technical support. Printer is over 3 years old and no warranty available. Any ideas ?

I have an Epson CX6600. It was working perfectly fine until I turned it off. Now it will not print anything at all. It is connected properly to the port and everything seems fine except it will not print.

I tried cleaning the heads and check for paper, but could not find anything. Maybe it is best just buying a new one.?

I've tried holding the color b& w and stop button method but it doesnt work. Noise sounds like a tiny car starter motor trying to engage, a bit like the music fom '[email protected] the movie, eee, eeee, eeee, as he stabs her. All this is going on in my printer.

The head assembly is attached to a photo sensor that tells the printer when it is at the ends of its travel.

Sounds like this mechanism is not working properly.
Check to make sure thare is no obstructions or dirt in the paths at the ends of the print head travel.

You can use an air gun to clean the printer (JUST KEEP IT AWAY FROM THE PRINTER CARTRIDGES) as the ink will FLY EVERYWHERE.....

Hi, below the belt that pulls the head from left to right is a 'bail bar' which the head moves along. Put a little light oiul on the bar, check for any bits of paper jammed in the mechanism which may be obstrucring the print head.
Also check that the bushes which support the print head haven't been dislodged. You can tell because there will be a strange looking doughnut type thing sitting and looking lost on the bail bar. you can usually just push this back into place on the side of the print head.

It's the brown ribbon like plastic strip just above the stainless steel bail bar

Epson Stylus Photo R300 sounds like it's printing

I know there are some cleaning cartridges with a chemical thinner that could clean any ink residual that could interfere with proper function of the printing head.
If this doesn't work you probably have to replace the head.
Check also the flat cable that follows the printing head during movement.

Nothing at all? Poor you are. The pump may damage or lost electricity.

Did you remove the little sticky tabs from each new cartridge? They allow air in, and ink out.

Have you removed the tear off tape from top of cartridges, it lets the air in and ink flows.

try doing 4 head cleans and then leave the printer powered up over night. Don't print or anything else after the head cleans until the morning then do one more head clean (this soaks the print head in ink overnight and then the final head clean should clear any obstruction. If the printer still refuses to print in colour, you could try replacing the cartridges anyway as they can be faulty. The only problem is thaty sometimes it's cheaper to buy a new priner. (how silly is that!) By the way, are you using compats or epson original ink carts?

weird, this problem accours almost only in lazerjets. anyway, you can try the following: 1. Unplug data cable. 2. plug power cord directly to socket (as opposed to extension) . 3. remove memory card. 4. changed toner cartridge. also, the info in the following page may assist you: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q189764/
