Question about HP Officejet 7130 All-In-One InkJet Printer

HP Officejet 7130 "Scanner Failure"

My 7130 says "scanner failure, turn power off, then on again". When i do this, it says the same thing. A tech (not hp) told me that a lot of hp's have this problem, and are solved by firmware update. HP's website does not have one for my all in one. Are there any third party updates? Another forum said that cleaning the scanner glass may help. Any idea's? I have not cleaned glass, as this is a lengthy process, and a last resort. I have tried all resets available with no success.

When i power on, everything works. It will print, and receive faxes. I have no control with the printer buttons though. If any button on the printer is pushed, it just beeps, with "scanner failure". So where would i find a 'scan unit'? On ebay? I'll have a look around. Would you know an average (or acceptable) price?

copies ok but says scanner failure when I try to print from the computer

  • Anonymous Feb 15, 2008

I have the same "Scanner Failure" problem. Unit is on 24/7 in my home office. I don't know if it fails to print faxes when "Scanner Failure" is on screen, but even with the screen showing "Scanner Failure" it will still scan both color and B/W on both the document feeder or the flat screen and it will copy both color or B/W...The scanner does occasionally make a "honking" sound (like a rubber belt slipping) but the scans, copies and prints are stioll excellent.

I really don't want this machine to suddenly quit working since I receive 10-20 faxes a day.

    Any suggestions?

I was told I need a new scanner part when this message appears. Shutting off the machine does nothing to erase the message. Is there a remedy?

Hello my officejet 7130 make some trouble.

Scanner failure but this is a problem from photolense inside the scanner.

You must open the scanner and clean the lense and mirror.

Scanner failure usually means you'll have to replace the entire scanner unit.

When the machine turns on (or gets plugged in), does anything happen...any lights come on?

Is the machine able to print from the computer and recieve faxes while the scanner error is present?  If so, you probably need a scan unit.

How do I solve the "scanner failure power off and on again" message for an h.p. 6110 officjet all-in-one printer/scanner/fax?

Hi Paul,

Scanner Failure usually results in Hardware Failure. However there is one step you can try. Try connecting the printer directly to wall outlet or any other power outlet and the issue should be resolved.

Error code: "Scanner failure"

if your 7130 is showing "scanner failure," try resetting the date/time

If that fails, then your trouble's the motherboard, not the scanner assembly

I suggest you to get help from hp to replace the mother board of scanner

Displays " Scanner Failure"

I've seen a similar issue on other HP All-In-Ones. I had to contact support, but all they do is make sure you try connecting the printer to the wall outlet instead of a surge supressor, then a different wall outlet, then reset to factory defaults. After that didn't work, they submitted an replacement order.

Hope this helps

I keep getting a scanner failure error

Let's try this. Turn power off, unplug the cord from the surge strip or wall socket. Leave unplugged for about 30 minutes, then plug back in and turn on. Hopefully this will fix your problem. Good luck.

Officejet 7130

Remove both the ink cartridges from the All-In-One.
Unplug the power cord from the All-In-One as well as the power outlet.
Now move the carriage (carriage is the one which holds the cartridge) Too and Fro till you feel the carriage is moving smoothly.
Then insert the cartridges close the access door.
Plug the power cord directly to a wall outlet without surg protector.
Before connecting the power cord to the All-In-One press and hold the # and no 6 button and then insert the power cord, do not release the keys
until you see a message a reset (if the screen goes blank then release the keys and turn the power on)
Now try printing a test page or make a copy

If it still makes a loud noise and the message comes up as scanner failure, then either the scanner or the scanner machanisum is bad, you may have to replace the unit

Good Luck
