My 7130 says "scanner failure, turn power off, then on again". When i do this, it says the same thing. A tech (not hp) told me that a lot of hp's have this problem, and are solved by firmware update. HP's website does not have one for my all in one. Are there any third party updates? Another forum said that cleaning the scanner glass may help. Any idea's? I have not cleaned glass, as this is a lengthy process, and a last resort. I have tried all resets available with no success.

Scanner Failure usually results in Hardware Failure. However there is one step you can try. Try connecting the printer directly to wall outlet or any other power outlet and the issue should be resolved.
I've seen a similar issue on other HP All-In-Ones. I had to contact support, but all they do is make sure you try
connecting the printer to the wall outlet instead of a surge supressor, then a different wall
outlet, then reset to factory defaults. After that didn't work, they
submitted an replacement order.
Let's try this. Turn power off, unplug the cord from the surge strip or wall socket. Leave unplugged for about 30 minutes, then plug back in and turn on. Hopefully this will fix your problem. Good luck.
Remove both the ink cartridges from the All-In-One. Unplug the power cord from the All-In-One as well as the power outlet. Now move the carriage (carriage is the one which holds the cartridge) Too and Fro till you feel the carriage is moving smoothly. Then insert the cartridges close the access door. Plug the power cord directly to a wall outlet without surg protector. Before connecting the power cord to the All-In-One press and hold the # and no 6 button and then insert the power cord, do not release the keys until you see a message a reset (if the screen goes blank then release the keys and turn the power on) Now try printing a test page or make a copy
If it still makes a loud noise and the message comes up as scanner failure, then either the scanner or the scanner machanisum is bad, you may have to replace the unit
