Try running through all the different resolution settings on your laptop, some tv's are very specific about which resolutions will display and which won't.
You could have an inverter problem or a faulty CCFL lamp/s.

check your vga cable that is connected on your cpu,for some lose connection,it must be fitted if you still don't get any display check your cpu.have some other monitor for isolation,if you dont have bring it on s repair center,your cpu has a problem.
Try shining a flashlight on the screen, or without the flashlight, try to see if you can distinguish anything on the screen at all, if you do, the backlight is dead, or the monitor has an internal most likely unfixable problem.
I have the same problem and have traced it down to a potential power supply issue. I bought mine at Best Buy in '06 and was told today that they will test the power supply for free. It may range from $50.00 to $100.00 depending on where you can get it. This does not include labor for those not qualified to work with electronics. Hope this helps you.
