Question about Sharp XR-10X Multimedia Projector

2 Answers

Nothing happens.. Our projector just completely stopped working. We were in the middle of a movie and it just shut off. Will not come back on. What could the problem be, and how can we try to fix it ourselves?

Same problem. Picture just stopped. It wasn't the lamp, b/c no lights. I was thinking it might be a fuse. Of course it is X-mas and Radio Shack is closed. Thanks for the instructions!

My Sharp XR-10x projector has same problem. Just stopped working while we were using it. Doesn't seem to be getting any power.

I followed instructions provided in previous post (incidentally, great instructions. thanks) and got to the fuse. However, I did a continuity test on the fuse and it appears to be ok (not blown). Will replace anyway, but don't expect this will solve my problem. In anticipation, wondering what else may be at fault?

This is the second such projector I've purchased. So far, no problem with the first. Difference may be attributable to the fact that problematic projector was ceiling mounted (ie. upside down). Perhaps in that position the fan setting should be set to high (default is 'normal'). Don't know. Just a guess.

Once you open the unit, try pressing the little red button on the lamp casing (towards the front of the unit). That's what fixed my problem (with identical symptoms).

I had the same problem and I just fixed it. Here is what you need to do.

Unscrew all of the bottom screws (you will need a long screwdriver)

Unscrew all of the back screws near the inputs

Carefully but FIRMLY pry and remove the top of the case (it is hard but you will get it)

Remove all of the screws on the metal case and circut board. Unconnect all of the wires (mark them so you can plug them back in)

PULL THE CIRCUT BOARD OUT- this will also take pressure as it is connected to the lamp/lens.

Unscrew the metal plate/case. This is a pain as there is one screw that is on the side and IMPOSSIBLE to remove with a screwdriver. I used needlenose and twisted it out.

Once removed look towards the plug through the hole and you will see a standard fuse. I used the needle nose again to remove it.

Run down to Radio Shack and get a 6.3 AMP 250 W fuse

replace and put everthing back together.

DO NOT FORGET TO TAKE EXTRA CARE TO GET THE CIRCUT BOARD CONNECTED TO THE LAMP/LENS INPUT!!! It is on the bottom of the board and takes a little finesse.

Power on and you should be good to go.

I managed to fix mine for about $2.99 plus gas and about 2 hours of time. If I did it again it would take me 20 minutes...

Good Luck!

My Sharp XR-10X unit just suddenly stopped working in the middle of a presentation. No lights, no sound, nothing. Any ideas? I've tried to open up the cover, but with no luck. How can I open up the back...

Most likely cause of the problem is termo protection, it has to be reset. I would not recommend you to open the projector by yourself. You simply wouldn’t know what to do with it.

Shutting down in the middle of presentations

it's overheating from excessive dust or lack of air flow. blow the dust out of it with canned air and make sure all of the vents are free from obstructions.

VPL-HS20 shuts down in the middle of a movie

There is a heat sensor cutting down the power. The sensor is located on the upper side between lamp and fan and is monitoring the air temperatur. I don't know what is causing the sensor to switch - excessive heat or simply age or ... . Anyway un screwed this sensor and my problem disappeared.
Possibly a stronger fan would solve the problem too.
