I am having the same issues with my brand new 32" westinghouse LCD (SK-32H240S)

It appears, at random, to suddenly lose the picture (screen goes black but not off, sound continues normally)

The only thing that seems to bring the picture back is turning the power off and on. I have had it set up for 2 days, and it has happened at least half a dozen times... thinking of returning it....

I have the sk32h240s and the same problem. Unfortunately the advice on unplugging and replugging the cord from the back of the television did not work. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Picture comes on for approximately 1 second, then goes blank. Sound and channel selection appear to be fne.

  • Anonymous Feb 25, 2009

this problem would cost approx $400.00 to fix plus shipping

I just got a new tv---and btw it was not a westinghouse

best buy said they have had this problem before with this tv so if you didnt buy the warranty you are SOL and the westinghouse help line is terrible

I tried the unplugging while it was on and it did not help. One other thing, when it turns on, the W that shows does not stay on as long as it used to. Any other tips before I pay a serviceman to look at it?

Its probably a broken backlight inverter, it costs about $130 for a new 1, and thats if you install it yourself, which shouldn't be too hard You can probably find instructions online about how to do that (P.S. Check before buying and trying to install yourself.)

Got impatient and opened the rear panel. Turns out, one of the transisters has a burn mark and a melted spot on the LCD/LIPS inverter. Easy fix if you have the money. 159.99 for the replacement LIPS board on www.lcdpart.com. part number 4H.B0700.051. I have not yet fixed mine, waiting on funds to increase. 8 plugs and 6 screws and you got er fixed.

I read on this site that unplugging the power cord from the back of the tv while it's on and then replugging back in works. I had the same problem as you along with the controller not working. When I tried this suggestion, I was very surprised that it worked. The tv and controller both immediately funvtioned properly. I assume there must be some sort of "rebooting" that takes place. Anyway, good luck.

We had the same problem...screen would either go into lines or just black, but sound would work perfectly. Our Westinghouse is only 1.5 y/o, we took it to HDTV repair shop and they said it was the main signal board which would cost $300 plus labor! We are now trying to sell the TV and just bought a SHARP.
Good luck!

I tried unplugging, but the problem came back after a day.

I think there are some issues with the energy saver when set on normal. After a while of being on this setting the problem occurs. Modifying this setting to E-Saver seems to have solved the problem. TV must have problems entering or coming out of sleep mode is my guess... been working fine for me for a week now after making the change.

1. Try this - hold the menu button down for 10 seconds. TV should power up; you will have to turn off front panel buttons on menu.

2. You can also try a hard reset: Unplug TV from AC mains and remove all cables from TV. Wait about 30 minutes and replug to AC power and redo the cabling. Switch on the TV and see if it works..

3. Powering down the set or putting it in standby may have allowed the power supply to cool. Weak capacitors often go out of spec when they cool, thus preventing a section of the power supply from firing up properly again. There is a simple trick...just warm the back of the TV with a hair dryer for 5-7 mins after you have unplugged the TV. Look for the little areas of holes in the back panel of TV. Use these as your guide at where to use the hairdryer, but don't hold the dryer too close (say 5-6inches away). (Make sure the dryer is on High heat). If the TV doesn't turn on after you have heated it up (like it tries to come on but then turns off) you need to unplug the TV again, this resets it. And repeat those steps till it works. Resetting the TV after it fails to turn on is the key.

Try these first and let me know how it goes..

Westinghouse LTV-37w2 loses picture

Hello, you are getting some signs that your inverter boards on this unit are going to go out. By the sounds of the problem you could have a loose cable in the master or the slave inverter, or it is just an indication that one of the two is about to give out with in the near future. You can find these parts by visiting www.shopjimmy.com.

Westinghouse ltv 32w4 hdc 32.02 in. hdtv lcd tv / dvd combo

My 42" Westinghouse HDMI inputs just stopped working. I thought it was the TW Explorer 4250HDC issue so I got a new one from TW. Still said no signal from HDMI. So, I shut the TV down and pulled the power cord out of the back. I waited a few seconds and reconnected the pwr cord. The TV "re-booted" so to say and now the HDMI inputs work. I think TVTEK has the right idea that it is firmware/software related. In the mean time, you might want to give that a try.
