SOURCE: The spinning brush isn't moving

Belt may be off the motor spindle, with the vacuum off try turning the brush by hand, does it turn freely or can you feel the resistance of the motor?

SOURCE: Brush stopped spinning

If you've had the brush out to clean it you need to re-set the trip switch which is a red button at the right side of the brush simply press it in till it clicks.

      Turbo head has stopped spinning

Hi Fay, it's Jack at Dyson.

If your DC39 Multi Floor's turbine head has stopped spinning, this could mean there's a blockage in the turbine head, wand, hose or lower duct hose. This could reduce the airflow passing through the machine, which in turn will affect the turbine which powers the rotating brush bar.

It's also a good idea to check the Turbine head is free of any threads, hair or other obstructions:

I have used my dyson dc39 perhaps a dozen times tops and the brush bar won't stay spinning. I've stood it upright and turned it off, clicked the brush power button. Spins then stop-makes pop sound.

If it's like my DC-07, the brush shouldn't spin if it's upright, and also won't spin if you don't have the clutch for the brush fully engaged. Make sure that the back of the unit is tilted off of the fully upright position, and check that the brush clutch is all the way engaged - there may seem to be a middle setting, but that isn't really where you want to be. Hoping that helps.

Why won't the brush on the head stop spinning?

Hi Glen, it's Jack at Dyson.

Depending on which DC39 variant you own, you may have the facility to shut off the rotating brush bar using the trigger control on the hand grip. The brush should be shut off when cleaning hard flooring, delicate rugs or long pile carpet. Press and hold the button for a few moments to shut off the brush bar:

If you've tried this and cannot shut off the brush bar, please contact the Dyson Customer Helpline directly. Our experts will need to take some further details about your particular machine, and will also be able to talk you through some simple troubleshooting checks to resolve any issues.

Turbo head on DC39 animal will not spin. I have removed any hair etc caught around the brush but still no spinning..

I have the same problem with my DC39 Animal's brush bar. Im on my 3rd one in 9 months of ownership. The DC39 brush bar is driven pneumatically (there is no electric motor in the brush head) and switched on and off via a suction activated pneumatic ratchet within the brush head. The moving components are actuated by bellows. Ive found that the glue holding the bellows fails stopping the ratchet working intermittently at first and then completely as the bellows comes away completely. At first you can help the ratchet by tapping the brush head - the red ratchet ring can be seen to click round. This, in my opinion, is an inherent weakness of the DC39 design and cannot be easily repaired. The only solution is a new brush head. Luckily Ive got a 5 year warranty and at the current rate I will have got through about 20 brush heads !
