Question about Kenmore 76081 Wall/Window Air Conditioner

My new Kenmore window unit 76081 makes loud rattle

My new Kenmore window unit 76081 makes a very loud metal rattle when the compressor cycles on. The noise will last for about 5 minutes and finally quiet down to a very nice quiet hum. But the next time the unit cycles through the cooling cycle - the rattle starts again. It is not water in the system, this is a metallic rattle. How can I stop this noise - it is very loud and annoying? The noise seems to come from the right side of the unit. Karen

If it does not make the noise when the fan is ruunin you may ahve abroken sping in the compressor. Make sure you Window unit is level. If not the compressor will knock on the inside. Rusty

Kenmore 12000 btu turns on fine but after a few minutes fans shut off and compressor keeps running this is a heat and air model

First replace fan capacitor and try, if not, bearings worn out in your fan motor. Replace bearings or motor with new capacitor.

My Kenmore refrigerator is making a loud noise when running and when it shuts off it makes a loud clunking noise. Also, it is running about every 10 minutes. The refrigerator is 7 years old.

it sounds like the compressor insides are loose and you will be needing a new compressor, but just check and make sure the rubber mounting feet on the outer compressor base where its mounted to the refrigerator base are all tight and the rubber shocks are all good

Loud Noise from 76081 AC

The chances are you are damaging your A/C with each use that makes that loud sound. What kind of loud sound is it? Is it like a rattling sound? Here's a great, handy diagnostic article on that, specifying probable causes of it:

http://yourhandymanzone.com/Your_Handyman_Zone_How_To_Pages_Home_Improvement_Zone_Cooling_Ventilation_Systems_Central_Air_Conditioning_Making_Rattling_Sound.htm

You also might want to take advantage of the text-link that offers up to four (4) free A/C contractor estimates from those in your area--you can "pick their brains" as to what they think is specifically going on with your A/C and attempt to then use their information to fix the A/C on your own, or, altogether, and for the better, pick the best-priced estimate and have it resolved this hot summer season before more damage is done.

Good luck!

Metallic bell thud when unit turns off, kenmore refrigerator

Hi, It is the compressor. The compressor is a pump inside the housing you see under the refrigerator. The pump sits on some springs inside this housing and one of the springs has gone bad. When the compressor shuts off, there is back pressure and the noise you hear is the pump hitting the housing because that sprig is broke. There is no fix other then replacing the compressor. It is very costly to replace. If this refrigerator is older, I would recommend you start looking for a new refrigerator. The noise could last a while but, it is a sign the refrigerator will not last much longer.
I hope this helps you understand what is happening.

Frig makes a very loud booming noise/ratteling what is the cause?

The noise is coming from the compressor and is a result of a broken support spring inside the compressor. When the unit shuts down, the inner casing rattles against the outer casing because the spring is not there to keep them apart. The only fix is to replace the compressor but otherwise it is just bothersome.

Haier ESA 3185 AC won't cool; makes escalating loud vibrating noise near front panel/ filter

Have someone check the run capacitor of this unit. If the run capacitor is bad over shorted it can cause the unit to run and short cycle on a current overdraw. This makes for an electrical imbalance in the compressor motor. Next step is the compressor is faulty.

Refrigerator makes lot of noise

titu, can you be more specific on what kind of noise you're hearing. If it's a squealing noise I would suspect either the evaporator or condensor fan. See if you can isolate where it's coming from. Catriver..post back.

Honeywell VisionPro TH8110R1008 controlling a Carrier FA4ANF018 electric furnace/AC. Heater won't turn on. Honeywell VisionPro TH8110R1008 controlling a Carrier FA4ANF018 electric furnace/AC. As best I can recollect, the sequence of events went like this: Furnace was working normally. Thermostat was set at 70. Turned temperature on thermostat down to 67 and left the apartment. Didn't notice if furnace was running or not at the time, nor if it was running and shut off when I lowered the temp. Came back an hour later. Furnace was running and temp was up to 72 degrees. Thermostat looked normal. No indication of low batteries. Tried turning the system off on the thermostat. Furnace continued to run. Nothing on the thermostat would affect the furnace. Eventually turned off the circuit breaker (for the apartment electrical, not the breaker on the furnace) to stop furnace. Waited. Turned breaker on. Furnace stayed off. Batteries failed in thermostat and screen went dark with barely readable failing battery message. Put in new batteries. Thermostat fired up but still wouldn't control the furnace. Switched to cooling. AC went on. Couldn't turn AC off. Had to turn breaker off again. Turned breaker on. Thermostat displayed "Wait" message when I tried turning on the furnace. Waited half an hour. Wait message disappeared. Still can't turn furnace on. Slid out lithium backup battery and slid back. Thermostat makes appropriate click sounds as if it is turning the furnace on or off, but furnace doesn't respond. Equipment Status screen shows furnace on or off depending on thermostat settings. Set thermostat to System Off. Checked breaker on side of furnace. Was off. Turned on. Turned temp up on thermostat. Thermostat clicked, but furnace did not go on.
