Sounds like a good fix, how does one go about reseting the firmware?

I have the same issue with the printer but I do have a solution for you.
I do know how to reset the error codes.
Start by turning off the printer and unplugging the power cord.
Next, you need to hold the Instant Share and Photo Tray buttons simultaneously while plugging in the power cord. If done correctly you will see the LCD Screen turn green with the numbers '1 2 3 4 5'.
After that is done, you need to unplug the printer, and replug it.
I myself have not been able to resolve the issue as to why it is giving me the error code. Any help would be appreciated.

If you are not using HP ink cartridges you may have trouble. I was using Rapid Refill cartridges and had the same problem. I returned them and was told that a new chip has been installed in hp cartridges, so you need to make sure that the cartridges have this chip. Rapid Refill set me up and have not had any problems since.

Fro our Fixya community:
Try holding down the OK, Cancel, Black, and Color buttons all at once. While holding them down, press the On button to power it off (You may need another person if you lack large, coordinated hands). Turn it back on while still holding the other buttons down. You will notice it turn itself off before "booting" fully. After it turns itself off, you can finally let go of those buttons and turn it back on normally. This will force a reset and system maintenance.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Hello, This sounds like a layout problem.
Here's what to do: After you've chosen the photo you'd like to print, make sure you press Layout on the printer control panel to select a layout for that photo. Press the button repeatedly to move through the six layout options. When a memory card is inserted, the selected layout is displayed in the bottom center of the printer screen. All photos selected from the printer control panel will print in the selected layout.
For more information, here's an easily clickable link to the manual for this printer. This link is part of the HP official web site.
