That's because Microsoft bought Eisenworld. Both the Eisenworld and Alohabob web sites have been shut down. "Bob" will be comming out on a Vista Update.

Reset to factory defaults

go to windows help & type restore to factory defaults; here is what I found.

Restore system files and settings

System Restore helps you restore your computer's system files to an earlier point in time. Typically, you want to restore your computer to a restore point that was created just before the date and time when you started noticing problems. The descriptions of the restore points that are created automatically correspond with the name of an event, such as Windows Update installing an update. System Restore returns your computer to the state that it was in before the restore point that you choose. To learn more about how System Restore works, see What is System Restore?

To restore system files and settings using a recommended restore point

  1. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  2. Click Recommended restore, and then click Next.
If there isn't a recommended restore point, follow the steps below to choose a specific restore point.

  3. Review the restore point, and then click Finish.

To restore system files and settings using a specific restore point

  1. Do one of the following:

    • If there is a recommended restore point, click Choose a different restore point, and then click Next.

    • If there isn't a recommended restore point, click Next.

  2. Click the restore point that you want, and then click Next.

To view the programs and drivers that will be affected (which could include programs that will be deleted), click Scan for affected programs.

Restore factory settings programs step

On newer (Vista and up) to restore to factory press F11 at HP splash screen this will put you factory restore mode ( not earlier restore point) then follow the on screen instructions including backup option of files if you haven't done this if no backup is needed choose to continue without backup and this will bring your HP laptop back to factory, out of the box, condition. You will have to reinstall programs of choice and update adobe free products like Adobe Flash and Reader and all of the windows OS updates good luck

I have Microsoft Office 2003 on my Toshiba laptop PC, Windows home XP. A friend installed Microsoft Picture Manager, which I've been trying to uninstall but cannot. I don't find it in any programs that can...

Do a system restore. Click start, all programs, accessories, system tools, system restore. Follow the instructions to restore to a date prior to the install of MPM. You will not lose any new files but you may have to update your antipvirus program.

How do I access the hidden partition to reinstall operating system?

Turn on or restart your notebook, then press F11 while your notebook is
starting.
3 Insert the Operating System Recovery CD/DVD when prompted. The System
Recovery program starts.
Click a system recovery option
Full System Restore (Destructive) reformats the hard drive and
restores the system software as it was when you purchased your
notebook. This process deletes your data files.
Full System Restore with Backup (recommended) moves the
contents of the hard drive to the C:\My Backup folder and installs
a new copy of Windows XP. This option saves your existing data
files, but all programs must be reinstalled and the program settings
reconfigured. You need at least 4 GB of hard drive space to use this
restore option.
5 Click Next. The System Restore - Format and Recover dialog box opens.
6 Click Yes. Files are restored to your hard drive. When file recovery has
finished, the System Restore dialog box opens.
7 Click Restart. Your notebook restarts, and Windows finishes its setup and
installation.
Important
After you restore your system, it will
appear with the same files and programs
it had when it shipped from the factory.
You still need to download Windows
updates and antivirus updates to bring
your notebook’s software up to date.
8 Reconnect your Internet cable and all USB peripheral devices. You are
done.

hi Brian

this is because of a virus attack on your system

update the virus definition files of your antivirus program and run a deep scan of your sys else if you still in doubt then suggest that you
download one of the better free antivirus (like avira or AVG) uninstall the existing Antivirus software and install the new one update the Virus definitions of it and run a complete scan of the drives

once the virus is removed you will not face the problem any more

cheers

Computer doesn't recognise the microphone

What did you use to clean the registry? Some registry cleaning programs have a backup file to restore what was "cleaned". If you have the backup, try restoring from the program. A system restore in Windows might also repair the damage. Good luck!

Can not Scan

Here is the cause: hpqscnvw.exe has a configuration file which becomes corrupted randomly due to the fact that three separate applications are all trying to access/modify this same file. Thus, it is un-important what model of scanner you are using, even to the point that this error will occur regarless of whether the device itself is even powered on.

Here is the fix:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=445194&prodNameId=445197&swEnvOID=228&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ma-32957-7

In case this link ever goes dead, search for this application in Google:

HP LaserJet Fix Scan UtilityI discovered this solution in about one hour of research and hacking the hpqscnvw.exe file to find out exactly what it does and why.
When you run this application, ignore the drop-down menu and tell it the I.P. address of your printer. It doesn't matter whether the printer is on or connected or not...just tell it the I.P.
Have Fun.

I attempted to notify HP of my solution:

Presencia: Hello Brian.

Presencia: Welcome to HP Total Care for All-in-One products. My name is Presencia. How may I assist you today?

Presencia: Please go ahead with your query.

Brian Blessing: Hello, Presencia. I have been in touch with you guys allready, Chat session ID: 10011011221461396013

Presencia: Sure.

Brian Blessing: I discovered on my own how to resolve this problem

Brian Blessing: This application:

Presencia: May I have a 2-3 minutes of your time to check the previous chat session?

Brian Blessing: certainly

Presencia: Thank you for being online, Brian.

Brian Blessing: no problem

Brian Blessing: take all the time you need

Brian Blessing: A lot of people have been having this problem, and HP tech support was un-able to help....but I found this application that will fix the problem. I know it was not designed to run with my model of printer, but it works none the less

Presencia: Yes, I understand your concern.

Brian Blessing: It repairs the corrupted configuration files assiciated with the problem

Brian Blessing: Can you read what I type withou ta translator program?

Presencia: I apologize, Brian.

Brian Blessing: I guess not...

Presencia: Do you still have the same 'Scan Cannot be Performed Because Another Program or Computer is Using the Networked Device' error message while scanning?

Brian Blessing: Can you read English by yourself?

Brian Blessing: The whole reason I am here is to let you all know that I found the solution to this problem, so you can pass it on to the thousands more who are having the same issue.

Presencia: Brian, the issue occurs due to Firewall blocking the scanning files.

Presencia: Please turn on the Firewall.

Presencia: I will certainly forward this update to our R& D Groups as well as all our Customers.

Brian Blessing: No, Presencia, it is not. The problem is that the scanning applications' configuration file becomes corrupted. The solution is this application:

Presencia: I appreciate your feedback and suggestion.

Brian Blessing: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=445194&prodNameId=445197&swEnvOID=228&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ma-32957-7

Presencia: Yes, I found the Utility.

Brian Blessing: It works if you tell the utillity to fix based on the I.P. address of the printer, not the model number drop-down

Presencia: Thank you very much, Brian.

Brian Blessing: The model doesn't matter, just the application

Brian Blessing: No problem

Presencia: We always appreciate all the updates from our customer end.

Brian Blessing: I'm sure you do...how about giving me a job in R&D?

Brian Blessing: lol

Presencia: It would be our pleasure.

Presencia: Please try to join HP as soon as possible.

Brian Blessing: Where do I sign up?
Presencia: I apologize, Brian. We are not authorized to discuss these matters through Chat as this is a professional Chat for All-in-One.

Brian Blessing: Ah...I understand....anything else I can do for you?

Presencia: You have been such a wonderful person to chat with.

Brian Blessing: Why thank you, and the same to you....have a good day...
