Question about Kenmore 79012 / 79014 / 79019 Gas Kitchen Range

1 Answer

Oven preheat times

Oven takes over 30-45 minutes to preheat to 425. Seems that the lower the temp the shorter time it takes to preheat but it still takes forever.

I wish I had better news. My oven has taken forever to preheat even when brand new. I had the repairman out and he said that was normal. It might help if you started at 350 and when it reaches that then increase to 425. The repairman told me it had something to do with the new heating "parts". They don't just stay on the entire time, but come on and go off during the use of the oven.

Gte a real reapirman =not someone sent you coupon. There's reson they are sending coupons. A good repair person has no need to offer everyone half off. No oven should take mnore then 10 minutes to reach full tempreature. Yes, it makes sense tht heating to 350 take less time. It can onlt put out so much heat per minute. Is this the loser on your "repair" warrantee? Probably, he just trying to minimize his cost. If he makes excuses he gets paid to do nothing. This is WHY those extended warrantees are useless. They send out worhtles bums who makes excuses and instead of doing their jobs liek aral reapirman. Constance E. Hecht was ripped-off by a con arrtist. PERIOD. He scammed you!

If your oven has the hidden bake element then it is probably working properly. A standard oven with an exposed bake element will usually take about 12-15 minutes to preheat. The hidden element models take a little longer but they usually heat a little more evenly.

Brad, your right on track. But I'd look toward the sensor first (The computer only does what the sensor tells it to do). I'll need the model number to find part numbers to help you further. The model number is on a sticker located on the oven body behind the lower drawer. It'll start with 3 digits then a decimal point the more digits (xxx.xxxxxxxx).

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question.

more than likely there is an issue with one of the temp sensors. you will need to press and hold clear then upper on off at the same time then release them then immed. press clear 3 times and hold on the 3rd till the service screen appears. on the right side you will see internal temp and catalyst temp they should be equal or very close. ill bet one of them is alot higher than the other if so the sensor will need replace but depends which one is bad as there are 2 of them. if the problem is on the lower just repeat above but use lower instead of upper

F3 usually means, that the oven temp. sensor is bad and one need to replace it.
The fact, that it's not heating tells me, the fuse in the back also needs to be replaced (requires pulling out).

IS it gas or electric? If it's gas, you may need to have a technician regulate the air and gas. If it's electric your t-stat may need to be replaced. Hope this helps! :>)!
