I've recently went through all the usual problems with this fax machine, the blue levers not having enough pressure applied, the manual pick-up when a fax comes in......but now we've got a black line on each side of the out-going faxes.
Is this a problem that can be fixed without purchasing new parts?

The following is general advice that applies to removing paper jams in most printers, copiers, etc.
Switch off the printer at the wall and unplug it. Remove the paper tray from the printer. Check to see if the printer has an access door in the rear to allow you to see inside (open it). Open any other external flaps (eg. manual paper feed tray) that will allow you to see inside. Open any internal flaps or levers designed for user operation and usually indicated with a green or orange coloured tab.
Always remove jammed paper by pulling it in the direction of normal travel only. Don't try to pull it out against the direction that it entered the printer. Sometimes rollers inside the machine have a knob (usually coloured green or orange) that can be used to manually wind the page through the printer or fax. Always turn in direction of arrow indicated only.
After removing page, return all levers, flaps, doors, paper trays etc to original positions, reconnect power to the printer and test
Set your answering machine to pick up after four rings . This will give the fax machine enough time to take the call if it senses that it's an incoming fax. Setting the answering machine to pick up after four rings would give the fax machine enough time to accept the fax.
hope this was helpful .
It means that your fax machine is "answering" the incoming call before you pick up the handset. Usually, the factory setting on the fax machine picks up after two incoming rings. There are three ways you can address this issue: 1.) You can either change the number of rings to, say, five incoming rings to give you enough time to answer the phone before the fax machine picks up, or 2,) you can find out if your fax machine has a feature that allows for the voice hook "click over" that will allow you to override the fax when you pick up your handset, or 3.) turn your fax machine off until you need to send a fax.
If you want to investigate number 2.), then you'll need your operator's manual.
Is this a machine that uses a big, black roll of thermal donor film? The Fax 1250 and several other models have a common problem where the left side prints perfectly, but fades to blank on the right (or the opposite). When you replace that donor film cartridge, you open the top and push a blue lever back on each side to raise the print element assembly. If one of those levers cracks, it will still hold down the head and look normal, but it won't hold it tightly enough the paper to to print on that side. For models Fax-1150/1250M/1350M/1450MC/1550MC the parts are Left (as viewed from the front):UF6085001 Right: UF6087001 One or two screws hold the metal plate on top, then the levers are held on by the springs.
There is a sensor in paper tray .u will see just its lever at the other end of lever there is a sensor .i think it is dirty .just clean it properly.now when u will put paper u will listen beep.now sensor is working .fails to pick up mean that fax try to pick paper but not pick the paper .there is a ruler justclean it with cloth and some licquid.and properly check this ruler is movi ng or not moving.
Sounds like print heads are fried. I found this guys website [email protected] he says he has lots of brother parts and his rating is good. Otherwise you might have an auction of your own to sell your PC101 carts. As far as your Ebay problem, that's why they have a dispute department and feedback. Good luck
