I bought a used Hitachi 53udx10b projection tv and the color is off and the picture quality is fuzzy. How can I fix this?

There should be a way to calibrate the screen. Look on the panel for controls. There should be a switch that says test. When you switch it there will be two lines, one horizontal and one vertical. If the screen is fuzzy, you should see red, blue, and green lines. There should also be controls that allow you to adjust the lines up and down and left to right. Use them to adjust the lines until you have two white linens. This should clear up your picture.

Another thing to try is clean the lenses and mirror. First unplug the TV from the electric. Then remove the front screen. Usually there is a piece of trim that hides the clamps. This can normally be pulled off. Next remove the screws that hold the brackets that keep the screen in place. Once done you will see a large mirror in the back at anangle and three lenses on the bottom front. You can clean any dust from the lenses with a moist microfiber cloth. DO NOT USE PAPER TOWELS. They will scratch mirror and lenses. Use a cotton or microfiber clary lightly dampened. cloth. Now reverse the steps and turn on the tv and enjoy.

What powers the picture tubes in a 55 inch model tn55x81

The tubes in the projection set among other things need: 200 volt screen source, filament voltage and high voltage.

Note that if set for example has a loss of vertical or horizontal sweep this will be detected and the tubes will be shut off to prevent the tubes from getting a burn mark on their screens.

My toshiba tn55x81 is getting lines in the screen. nothing major but the main problem is that it is losing its color focus after about 5 minutes of being on. i did adjust the color convergence and it did...

the prism is off balance or some bulb burning out, and you might need to replace parts. this would require a tv repairman, it is not an easy thing to do, looking at 200 to 400 repair.

Cleaning mirror and how to get in there

Hello timbick45,

You want to remove the top rear panel. Remove the screws and the top, along the sides, and along the middle of your TV (from the rear). Onec that is done be very careful because the mirroe is attached to the rear panel of the TV. set the back down and with a clean cloth and a can of air remove the dust off of the mirror, use a light window cleaner, after removing the dust. To clean the bulbs just use air to blow the dust off (not not attempt to clean the bulbs with any solvent.

I hope this helps

Thank you,

FUZZY PICTURE CONVERGANCE IS GOOD

Hi There!
You can certainly clean the mirror and lenses. surgical alcohol and a soft cloth should do the trick. Be careful when removing the screen. It is fragile and the slitest bump can damage it permanently. Also be careful not to turn or bump the lenses. Thus can result in many hours wasted on realignment. Good luck, JUS004

Rear projection clean mirror

You can get to it by removing the back panel. You also have to kind of lay down beside it and kind of twist around with your head to see what your doing. But it can be done. It helps if you take the two screw out that keeps the shelf that's around the picture tube assemblies it gives you a little more room. Don't use windex though it will streak it up bad. Just a damp soft cloth and then dry it good. Makes a big difference in picture quality.
