When I go to turn our savoy ceiling fan on with the remote the red led in the remote stays on and nothing happens. I tried putting a fresh battery in with the same result. Time for a new remote?

Sounds like you need a new transmitter. The light is a battery indicator light.

SOURCE: Have a Hampton Bay ceiling fan that doesn't work.

I'm pretty sure that home depot does sell remotes for that brand, although you may have to buy a new receiver to go with it. Otherwise try a lighting store near where you live. They seem to be able to order things like that.

SOURCE: Hampton Bay 60" Brookedale fan remote not working

The Remote (TRANSMITTER) control AND the RECEIVER must both be set to the same CODE in order for the REMOTE to operate the fan.
The RECEIVER is located in the CANOPY, the part of the fan assembly next to the ceiling which is also called the Hanger Bracket.
At the bottom of the Canopy you will see what looks like a large flat washer. Rotate the washer counter-clock wise to release it.
Then rotate the Canopy counter-clock wise to release and lower it. You will see the RECEIVER, which will have a short antenna at one end, tucked in among the electrical wire and bracket. Simply pull the RECEIVER out and you will see the CODE switches. Remember to set both devices to the same CODE.
Good luck. :)

SOURCE: Hunter ceiling fan remote 85095-01 stopped working

it also could be one of the the jumpers fell out of the remote
they are located just above the battery. you will need to match the placement of the jumpers with the receiver mounted in the fan.

Ceiling fan won't turn on

Hello -

Is the wiring for your ceiling fan also attached to a wall switch? If so, you will probably need to have the wall switch flipped to "On" first before using the remote control (with fresh batteries installed.)

Note: Many remote controls will come with batteries installed, but with a piece of plastic which needs to be removed between the battery / batteries and the power contact.

Best wishes.

How to operate fan without remote controls

Hi, Your actual question was about overriding the circuit and not using a remote. What you want to do is hook up a wall switch

Your question actually is answered on this page

Look under converting to 3 speed - number 4 - it cannot be done unless your fan has a remote bypass switch.

We purchased a house that is more than 10 years old. The ceiling fan w/light does not turn on with the wireless remote that is attached to the wall and there is not other switch but this one to turn it on....

You need to know if there is power to the fixture. If there is , then you might need to replace the receiver. It should be under the canopy where the power is connected for the fan.
