if you are just wanting tips to help you remember your password, try the following think of something truly random not country name's etc then substitue letters
with certain characters ie use the "!" or "1" instead of "i" also remember that the password is case senstive. once you have come up with something sutiable just put the same password but with a different numerical character at the end or beginning every time you wish to change. (note although it makes things really easy if you keep the password the same for all of your applications, it's not good practice to do so!)
to just reset your password numerous applications are able to do just that. the only drawback is if EFS (encrypted file system) has been enabled on the xp system in question, if it has been unless you know the origional password the files that have been encrypted will remain unreadable.
one of the free apps out there can be downloaded from the link below;
http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/cd080526.zipthis particular one is an iso image that should be burnt onto a cd. You reboot your computer making sure that boot from cd is permitted. Then follow the prompts to reset your password.
Note from my own experience: You tend to have more sucess when changing the administrator password, if you leave it blank ie no password entered, then from the operating system change the administrator password to something appropirate. ofcourse once this has been done you then change the password of the account in question (again from the operating system) to something that you remember.
more info can be found hear,
http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_administrator_password.htm#20 in fact a quick google on this subject should also provide a wealth of info.
PS you should not need to pay for the software as most of it is based on Linux.
