Well, get the babies out of there!!! If you need to drive it, start it up and blow the babies out of there or make fried babies. Babies also have a nest which can prevent you from starting it up ...Then, you need to remove the exhaust to do baby removal manually (not covered in manuals). Better than cat splattered all over the place under the hood...I've done that a few times!!! Well, get the babies out of there!!! The auto store probably sells a big chisel and a 4 lb hammer? If your going to replace anyway, use a hack saw. In my younger days, I've cut many a tail pipe with a hack saw. So a new muffler and tail pipe will have new flanges? I can't see anything from here.
Are you saying you have smoke coming out of the tail pipe ? Or is something dripping onto the exhaust pipe and burning ? If the smoke is coming out of the tail pipe, is it blue, white, or black ?
The TAIL pipe is at the rear of the car behind the muffler at the very rear (hence the word TAIL) You need to check the HEAD pipe. there are bolts and a gasket there, so have a shop check it out, or the dealer.
this smell from tail pipe may be burning coolant, does it smell sweet, if so have head gasket checked. when a car has problems with something from tail pipe. it is usually the head gasket that is bad.
on most cars they are located under the car just a little ways back from the engine put the car on ramps and secure the rear end with a brick or something under the tire you know the muffler is back by the tail pipe so all you have to do if follow that to the front and it looks like a baby muffler then you have found the catalyic converter
