SOURCE: Which of the outside wires is the hot

one of the conductors has a rib impressed into the insulation - this is the "identified" conductor and goes on the nickel colored screw of the replacement plug. the other is the "black" or hot and goes to the brass colored screw.

One of the bearings and its support ring broke on a SH1418PO shredder. How do I order a full set of 4 bearings?

You are probably missing an insulating ring / washer that goes between your bearing and your armature (the shaft on the center part of the electrical motor. The fact that it does not have a grounded plug is not necessarily an indicator of age or safety so don't be too afraid. DeWalt still uses two prong cords to this day. In these tools they offer what is called double insulation, simply non-conductive material that separates electrical components from the user. The part number for the insulating ring is 681623-9. If you ever wanted to ground the tool you don't really need any special switches you just have to attach the grounding line to the metal casing.

Power cord on my shredder shorted out, can it be fixed

Long and short is Maybe. Most large companies will not allow a repaired cord to be used on a job site. Rather the cord must be replaced entirely. If you are using this tool at home. You can either replace the end or dismantle the housing to access the connections. Dismantling, separating the housing and replacing the entire cord is the correct way to repair the tool. If you decide that you want to just replace the end. Go to your local hardware store and buy the appropriate plug. It will either be a two or three wire configuration. Match yours to the new replacement. I am forwarding two pictures please look them over carefully. You will notice the receptacle has three different size holes. The large slotted hole is neutral (the white wire), the small slotted hole is hot (the black wire) and the round hole with a flat bottom is ground (the green wire). Any questions please write back. Good Luck.

Can we use an extension cord with the Oztec 1275 shredder?

Yes you can. Just make sure that the plugs are not in a position where they can be kicked or trodden upon and that the cord itself will not trip people. Also make sure that the wire gauge of the extension is at least a little thicker than the shredder original cord. (Use a plugged extension cord, do not attempt a wire joint).

I have an Achiever CCS5000 shredder. On the base that holds the shedder part the safety post that must be up to run is broken. I need the part to fix. Where can I buy this part?

I also have one that i use off of the base. You can take the top off, 6 screws, make sure it is unplugged and locate the safety switch, cut the 2 wires & twist them together then use electrical tape to secure & insulate them. that will take care of the problem.

NWhat are your recommendations for replacing a cord. I know that the cords are two pronge double insulated. The reason I asked this question is that I am a safety professional and occasionally I see...

For a Double Insulated device the Only cord to be used is a two wire one for Active and Neutral connections. The preferred plug for Double Insulated devices is a two prong one. Some times when a replacement plug is required a three prong one is used on the 2 wire cord with no connection to the ground pin and has no bearing on the operation of the equipment.

My battery cord has split right wher it goes into the charger how should i fix this

The best way to fix this is to open the case, strip both wires back to expose the wire, slide a shrink wrap insulator over each individual wire, and then solder the wires back together. When connected, slide the shrink insulation down over the solder connection and then use heat to shrink the insulation around your repair, then close the case back up.

Dog chewed cord on bissell model 6579-2 how do I replace it?

You can cut the bad section of wire out of the cord, cut the insulation on the cord to get to the wires. Match your colors, strip the insulation from the individual wires and twist together. Wrap each wire with electrical tape (making sure no wire is exposed, can be a fire hazard), then wrap the cord with electrical tape. The cord will be a little shorter, but should work fine.

Where can I BUY THE cords at.

I've never seen the ad for a weed thrasher but, as far as a replacement cord goes. You can buy a extension cord of the same size and install it. Just cut off the end. The wires within the cord need to be the same size or bigger, never smaller. Also it's important to replace a 3 wire cord with a 3 wire cord. You can use a 3 wire cord with a machine that came with a 2 wire cord, just cut off the green wire at the machine end. Your wire colors should be white, black, and green. Black and white are your power wires and green is your ground. Usually black and white are interchangeable but, on occasion switching them may make the unit run backwards so install them in their original position. Write down where they where hooked up and install your new cord in the same places.
