Yes you can. You can purchase any USB web cam and you should be fine.

the pc could not recognize your web cam, try to plug out your usb web cam and blow or wipe the usb of your usb webcam. also try to plug it in to other usb port of your pc. if nothing happens, maybe the web cam it is the problem. and just to make sure that the web cam your using is the problem, try other usb web cam to see if its working on your pc. if the other web cam works on your pc, the web cam your using is damage, and if the other webcam is also not working, the usb ports of your computer is the problem.

you just need to install virtual cam then go to manycam dot com and download manycam install it and select video source your web cam
now you can broadcast your cam on everywhere like skype, yahoo, msn, gtalk etc
by select manycam as your primary cam

It sounds like you need to update your driver for the web cam.
Step 1: Go to device manager
Step2: Find the web cam in the device list
Step3: Open Properties
Step4: Have the device manager search for driver.

Other option:
with the web cam unplugged from computer, in device manager uninstall the web cam, restart computer, then plug web cam into computer and let OS find and install drivers.

In order to use your web cam and take pictures follow these steps :

- Check if your web cam is working or not ( when you turn on the web cam do you get the power light on or not)

- If the web cam is working fine if it is not then you can check the cables, unplug it and replug it if you are using an external cam on a desktop computer.

- Uninstall the web cam software from add and remove programs from control panel.

- reinstall the web cam software / utility.
you can do this using the disc which you have got when you bought the web cam.

If you don't have the disc you can go to the manufacturers web page and you can download the software and driver from there.
Must ensure that you select the correct serial number of your web cam when you do this.

go to device manager, un-install your web cam and re-install with the drivers cd of web cam, also change the port of the cam els the cam may gone

i bought web cam ZSMC USB PC CAMERA (ZS211) but lost the installation cd:( Is there anyway I can install the web cam and get it working? Is there any web site from where i can download the driver

If you bought a new 1.3 mega web cam with that a driver cd is available. If you have the driver cd install it first. here is install steps.

1. unplug the web cam if you connected to the system
2. Put the web cam driver cd into the cd drive and install the driver software.
3. In the installation it will ask you to connect the web cam to the system and connect it (Only it ask to connect)
4. After that you can see the image on the web cam software.
5. Adjust the lens which is comfortable to see.

These are intial steps to work the web cam just try it and inform me if you get any other thing
