SOURCE: Dryer runs, tumbles clothes, but does not heat

PSUinNC The first thing you have to do is to check in what position is the temperature switch . If the temperature switch is in the "air fluff" position, then the heater will stay "off". If this is not an issue, reset the circuit breaker. The motor needs only 120V to run, but the heater needs 240V and if one of legs is missing, the dryer would not heat. If it did not solve the problem, you have to perform full diagnosis. You will need some simple hand tools and a meter to check a continuity. If you are fillng you can handle it, let me know and I'll give you the step by step instructions. Gendos...post back

SOURCE: Not heating up

Hi

If your dryer doesn't heat, check these:

Power from the house -- Check to see whether there's power getting to the dryer. Is it plugged in? Check for blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers--your dryer uses two fuses or circuit breakers. The dryer could tumble but not heat if only one of the two fuses is blown. If you have circuit breakers, one of the two circuit breakers can trip, even if the two for the dryer are connected.

Heating element -- Often a dryer heating element burns out, but doesn't trip the circuit breaker or blow a fuse. The heating element is simply a long coil of special wire. You can check it for continuity with an ohm meter. No continuity means the element is bad and you need to replace it--electric heating elements aren't repairable.

Thermal fuse -- On many dryers, there's a thermal fuse mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. The fuse--which is about an inch long--is usually embedded in black resin and mounted in a white plastic housing. If the fuse has blown, you need to replace it. (You can't re-set it.)

Wiring -- A common problem is for the main wiring connection from the house, at the dryer, to burn and break its connection. Because the dryer can still tumble with partial power, the connection may be only partially defective. You may need to replace both the power cord to the dryer and the terminal block inside the dryer that the wire is attached to.

SOURCE: Tumble dryer trips electricity

I own the same machine and this happened to me, if the internal working of the machine get wet it will cut off causing the electrics to trip. This model is a condenser dryer, at the bottom of the machine if you open up the flap you will see the condenser on the left hand side, the manufacturer recommends that you clean this unit once every month and also empty the reservoir and clean the fluff filter after every use. While this may seem like a lot of hard work there is a very good reason for this. I suspect that your problem is due to a build up of fluff and or gunge in the condenser and bottom of the machine. Remove the condenser and give it a good clean of all fluff, you can run water through it either in the sink or bath as the best way to do this it is very fiddley using just your hands. Next check to see if there is a build up of water in the back the machine where the condenser usually sits, you will have to lie on your stomach and reach into the back of the machine (OBVIOUSLY ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE UNPLUGGED FROM THE MAINS SUPPLY BEFORE YOU DO THIS!) along the floor of the machine you will feel a channel cut into the plastic which runs into the sump at the back of the machine, if you have not cleaned the machine properly this is probably blocked and is the culprit. With this blocked the water is unable to travel to the pump that takes the water from the condenser into the resevoir at the top of the machine, and therefore it stays in the machine and can get thrown about onto the electrics and could cause the machine to cut out and trip your electrics! If this is not blocked check the black rubber pipe leading from the pump to the reservoir is not blocked, failing that perhaps the pump (in the plastic case at the back of the machine) is faulty and will need to be replaced. If water has built up in the machine you will also need to check to make sure none is sitting in the heater coil compartment (it did with mine) to get at this you will have to unscrew the metal plate at the back of the machine and let any water out. Leave the machine for a few hours to make sure it is dry and then give it another go. If your machine is still under warranty though i would call indesit first as they may get a little funny if you remove any of the machine covers yourself and refuse to look at your machine.

My hotpoint TDC30 dryer is cutting out after 3 mins ,the drum is warm inside and wont restart till its cold inside the drum

Hi joanne balla...
Sounds like the cyclic thermostat, thermostat, fuse (differnet names for the same part)..is faulty...replace it.
You will have to remove the back from the machine, look for the air tube going to the vent of your dryer and located on it will be the thermostat/s.
To test it, remove the wires fromthe two terminals and tape them together, then try running your dryer again and if it runs and heats ok then replace the cyclic thermostat/fuse.
Go to the following webpage to see the thermostat

Hello I have a hotpoint tcp 1p tumble dryer

this sounds like the thermostats

You-Tube video "sfGInKA3yp8" placeholder (do not delete)

Common faults -
1 The heating elements can fail (meaning open circuit)
2 There are cut-outs (T.O.C's) that might need resetting
3 The thermostats (stats) can trip out or burn out (meaning opencircuit)
4 Moderntumble dryers also have sensors and pcb's (Printed circuitboards) thesehave programs that can fail and circuitry although most should produce an errorcode showing you were the fault is.
5 Faultyconnections and burned wires may also be the fault.

I don't have any heat from my hotpoint aquarius ctd40G Tumble Dryer. I have cleared all the fluff from the condenser unit and unplugged the mains and tryed it all again but we still do not have any heat...

Remove the rear cover and you will see the element and stats, you will need a meter to test them.
Pull one wire off each thermostat and with a meter that beeps, test across each thermostat, if they are o/k, then the meter will beep,
if no beep then no good.
Replace all heater stats, even if only one has gone
If the stats are o/k then you will have to check the heater, this is more involved as it entails removing the top cover and left side panel looking at the dryer from the rear.
Unplug the heater lead, and again test with meter,if element o/k, then prob is timer or main pcb could be faulty, it really does get quite involved.
There is also a thermistor at the front of the dryer, that is part of the heating circuit.
Plz rate my solution.
Thnks.
