SOURCE: Can't use the fax on my Canon MP 530

There are 2 ports on the rear, 1 for the incomming phone line, and one to plug in a telephone handset (passthrough) if the telephone line is plugged into the wrong port, the fax machine is unable to dial properly, So try plugging into the other port on the back, it's just next to the other port hope this helps

Cant receive faxes. constant busy signal when dialing in.

Hi Janet
Try using a standard phone to call your Fax Line
Connect a phone to this Line to test for voice
Disconnect Fax Machine from Phone Line
Reset Fax machine
The Fax machine is supposed to respond to the right tones being sent down the voice line
If it is not responding & all else works then check your Fax settings for "Receiving"

My Brother MFC7340 Fax Machine will not send faxes it has a busy signal always and a busy signal when someone tries to fax me.

Hi,
You need to reset the memory, since previously you have dialed some number, which is not able to connect. So restart the printer. Unplug the printer for 10 minutes and plug back the power to the printer.

Hope this helps.

Not receiving fax- line is busy to all senders

Go to menu option and choose the option fax and set the parameter like auto receive or manual set the ring auto answer mode after certain ring. If it is in auto receiving mode it will receive the fax after the ring which you set. Make sure the phone wire which you insert in fax machine getting proper dial tone and getting out going calling facility.
Have a nice day and do not forget to rate please...!

Busy/No Response

Using a cell phone, call your fax machine to see if the fax answers. If it does answer, then hang up the cell phone and fax. Next, using the HOOK button on your fax, call your cell phone . The cell phone should ring and answer the phone call from the fax. If you do not get a connection between the fax and cell, try these: Check that the phone line to the fax is plugged into the LINE jack on the fax, NOT THE PHONE jack. The PHONE jack on the fax is to plug in a TELEPHONE ONLY. If the fax phone line is OK, go into your fax machines' RECEIVE and SEND settings and make sure they are set up properly (pulse or tone dialing, overseas mode, etc.) Print out the HELP LIST as follows: Press MENU button, then 5 on keyboard, then 1 on keyboard. Go through all the settings on the HELP LIST that apply to your problem. (Send and Receive modes, Ring Delay, Receive Options, etc.) Write down the original settings BEFORE YOU CHANGE ANY OF THEM.

My model Kodak 5500 printer/fax

Just found your post and I'm having the same problem. Everything else seems to be working correctly. I can copy, scan, print and I THINK I can send a fax correctly, I should have called the person and made sure it arrived. However, I cannot receive faxes. I have an answering machine on the line, but it is not plugged into the Kodak Pinter, it is in another room. The answering machine answered the call, the FAX noise came across, but the Kodak Printer never picked it up and printed out the fax. I think I have all the settings correct, but the instructions are not very clear. Do you think I HAVE to have the answering machine plugged into the Kodak Printer? That doesn't make sense, but I might try it.

Setting the voicmail

Voicemail or telephone answering device (TAD). There is a BIG difference. Voicemail is product of your telephone service provider. If you have voicemail, most providers have a solution to this that you must arrange through them. If you have an answering machine, you can set your Brother to TAD mode. In TAD mode, if your answering machine picks up, (you must set your answering machine to answer in less rings than your fax), your fax will "eavesdrop" to listen for the fax tones from the sending machine. If it hears these tones, it will disconnect your answering machine and accept the incoming fax. If it does not hear the tones, it allows the answering machine to record the incoming message. If you are home. If you answer the call and hear a tone every 2.5 to 3 seconds, that signals an incoming fax. Simply touch *51 on the keypad of the phone you picked up on. You will hear some shrill tones. That is your fax machine attempting to receive the incoming fax. Hang up the phone you are on and it will receive the fax. In any case, make sure that the receive mode is NOT set to AUTO. Set the receive mode to TAD or MANUAL. If these instructions were not clear enough, let me know and I will send you DETAILED instructions. You can find the manual here: http://www.brother-usa.com/Data/Documentation/Fax/User/UM_FAX2820_FAX2920_MFC7220_MFC7225N.pdf If you need additional assistance, please let me know before you rate this solution. Receiving Faxes

Can you receive a voice call on the same line? Call the machine with your cell phone and see if it rings and you can hear your voice on the fax receiver. Use your manual to check the settings.
