You formatted the drive first - what format did you use? The HTS3520 can only read FAT or DOS formats (FAT-32 is the newest format that the unit can read.) (Most USB flash drives come with a FAT32 format.)
Alternatively, you could burn the upgrade files to a CD-R.
You can reformat your Asus eePC 100h notebook using an Ubuntu Live USB.Here is how to make one:
1. Download an Ubuntu ISO Disk image from www.ubuntu.com or a debian ISO image file from www.debian.com.
2. You can also use an existing Live CD to create an ISO Disk image with if you have a working PC around. Many free tools exist for creating disk images.I suggest Ashampoo Burning studio or CDBurnerXP.Search for them on google.
3.Get your hands on a working PC that has Windows XP/Vista/7 installed on it.
4. Download the UnetBootIn utility from http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/unetbootin-windows-latest.exe.
5.The procedure for creating the Disk Image is as follows:
(a)Requirements:1 GB or larger USB drive, formatted as FAT32(most USB drives come formatted as FAT32 by default, but if you need to format it, on Windows, go to My Computer->right click your USB drive->format.
On Windows XP, you must be logged on as an administrator; on Windows Vista and above, you will be prompted for permissions via UAC. On Windows, the UnetBootIN software looks like this:
Follow the guided prompts on the software to make your Live USB drive, and be careful to select the corrrect linux distribution on the window. When done, safely remove the flashdrive from the PC and plug it in your Asus eeePC 100h notebook. Boot up your notebook and press the F2 Key as the system starts up and select the USB flash drive as the first boot device(You can also do the same from the BIOS setup). When you boot up with the Ubuntu Live USB, select "Try Ubuntu without installing" option to run the Live OS on RAM. When the system boots up completely, go to System>Administration>Gparted and the Gparted Disk utilitty will run. From the Gparted menu, select the appropriate partition you want to format or modify. You can read more on Gparted here. When you are done partitioning and formating your HDD as you desire, you can also install Windows XP/Vista/7 from a FlashDrive by following the instructions below:
1.Get your hands on a working PC with Windows XP/Vista/7 installed. 2.Download the WinToFlash utility from http://wintoflash.com/download/en/ 3.Install the application on the PC. 4.Once you are done, insert a Windows XP CD in the PC's optical disk drive and follow the installation instructions from WinToFlash. By default, the installation path for Windows XP files on the drive is DRIVE LETTER:/Windows/system32. See the screenshot below for more details:

Hello, While your computer is booting up, look for a "press [key] to
enter setup". That key will be the one you want to get you into the BIOS
settings. It can be a number of different keys, so if your POST screen doesn't
show it, try DEL,
F1-10 Go to BIOS setup, then boot fromUSB Drive. After that restart your system.
Then automatically windows XP will boot from your pen drive/USB drive.
if it has a USB port then u may use a pendrive and change the boot seq in BIOS to boot from USB drive
in the pendrive u must have all the WinXP OS install files...
use another PC having USB slot and a CD drive,
first make a pen drive bootable by formating it and copying the system files....(check what's the drive letter in which the pendrive is shown on MyComputer...it will be listed as "Removable Disk")
Note the drive letter say D: or E: or G: etc
then go to
Start / Run type
cmd
u will get a new black window
in the black window type
cd..
again type
cd..
u will go to c:\>
here type
cd windows
it will take u to
C:\Windows
here type
cd system32
so now it will look like this
c:\windows\system32>
here type
format e: /s or G: /s or E: /s based on the drive letter that u noted earlier
use another PC to just copy all files form a WinXp install CD to that formated pen drive and use that to boot your above PC that does nto have CD rom drive to install the Win OS
i)Try to put Pen Drive or USB in usb port and insert an Windows XP CD and try restarting start and i think u the know procedure of formating Window XP or reload OS(let me say that i'm not formating or reloading OS on ur system, there is small procedure over there after that u can use system normally....)
ii) when u reach a blue screen that show all the partitions of ur system (like C: D: E: ....), observe it will also show ur usb partition(mention memory....) separately,,, try to use this option :
Delete Partition by pressing D(usb partition being highlighted...) and then follow instruction .....and now u will see that there is no partition letter(such as D, E , F) assinged to ur usb
Now Create an partition on that by pressing C ... this will create an partition and it will retain or give name or lettering to it(such as D, E, F)
after this donot continue format the system, just exit from by pressing ESC button .... and ur system will start normally, ...observer usb now u will be able format.... from now..
