Re: troubleshooting my compaq
Best would be to get an anti-virus original disc (or rescue disk created on a clean pc) and have it boot from it rather then your normal operating system. other then that, have you tried to immeditaly press F8 just before it brings up the blue screen? you should be able to pick SAFE MODE from there and usually get it to work and inspect things.

this problem used to appear when a bad driver is installed or a damaged windows in near so reinstall your system as Microsoft says in this article
Try restoring the system to the last best configuration by going to Accessories on your Start Menu and clicking on System Tools>System Restore and find a day on the calendar and click on it to restore back to that date.
How many days you working in you laptop befor coming the blue screen? -- many days, 2 days. or 3 days, then comes blue screen?..
if the blue screen come few days working.. 1) check the programs anti virus.. maybe infected of virus or programs adware.. if yo always connected to the internet posseble happen this case.. or maybe you insert somthing in your system.. like usb flash, mmc. or any device.. be carefall sometime the computer making blue screen if some system error. even you didn't see error before... 2. try make restore system if can.. just go to Start, program., accessories, system tools then, system restor..
Maybe the best way to adjust the screen is with the manual magic focus..instead of letting the tv do the auto change it to manual and see if you can adjust the convergence yourself. I have this same model and once in the manual adjustment you want to make sure you see all white lines....if you seen any blue or red that is the color that needs to be moved towards the white line closest.
Once you think you have it lined up nicely hit "exit" on your remote and option 1....
It sounds like you have fried motherboard. If that's the case, you have to get it serviced by a place your manufacturer recommends. Sometimes the cost can be greater than just buying a new laptop, so shop around and see what you can find price-wise.
