White spots on Samsung DLP

I have an increasing number of white spots on my 3 year old Samsung DLP 4676 TV. The number is increasing a bunch every day. Obviously a Samsung design flaw based on the number of people with the same problem. What is the likelyhood of getting Samsung to remedy their big blunder?

Hello I have posted this eariler, it applies here so here goes: As the commercial goes, "It's the mirrors" and that is exactly what it is. The DMD (digital micromirror device) DLP chip that is the problem. The areas that are white are due to stuck or malfunctioning mirrors. This will only get more pronounced as time goes on. The fix is to replace the DLP chip and or module. I would advise that you get a qualified TV technician to do this. I hope this helps Thank you, Shuttle83 http://www.electron-age-technologies-llc.com

Did Samsung ever correct your problem with the white dots? I am going through the same thing, and Samsung doesn't want to make good on this issue at all - they will only tell me where to buy the chip, if I want to pay for it myself. The technician tells me that the chip will only be warranteed for 3 months, and that dry heat in your home worsens the problem - I run a wood stove several months out of the year....do I have to trade warmth for a decent TV? Or has Samsung developed a chip that is not affected by "dry heat", that I can replace the faulty one with?

to samaung this is a normal wear and tear problem, you need to change the chip or have someone change it for you

My SAMSUNG DLP HLT5675SX TV seems to develop little black spots all over the screen and after a while these black spots become bright white spots. In fact if a non-used Input is selected and the screen is...

It is the chip that controls the millions of mirrors inside the tv. If they are black, they are stuck closed. If they are white, they are stuck open. I JUST had the same the same thing happen with mine. I bought it 3yr and 2 months ago and I had an extended warranty on it for 3 years. Well, needless to say, it was out of warranty and I was pissed. The store I bought it from suggested I call Samsung. Which, I did. They asked for the model number and told me that my model (hlt5675sx) was one of the ones that is covered becasue they had a problem with the chip. Within 2 weeks, my tv was fixed by a repairman who came to my house. It works perfectly, now and it didn't cost me a penny. Good luck.

Spotty tv

DLP/mirror chip is going bad. A common problem on Sammy TVs after 2-3 years. Chip is user replaceable (try samsungparts.com or ebay) for about $150-200. Sammy was (last year) repairing the DLP White Spot problem for free. You MUST talk to ECR (executive customer service) to even think about getting that consideration--forget the standard CS people. Don't know if they are still covering this out of warranty in 2010.

Bad news, The Light engine has gone bad.The cost of the light engine is usually over $800.
Do Not Repair. Cut your loses. Always buy an extended warranty on any new electronic gadget, especially a TV. It will pay for itself.

Samsung DLP white spots

Are the spots fixed or do they move with the image? Verify that all venting is clean of dust. If the spots are fixed and upon close examination are a square shape, The device is overheating of failing. If the spots are moving with image it's a front end problem, and can be overheating as well.

Numerous white spots on Smasung DLP TV

same problem for me ... check out this thread on AVSforums about it.

I have the same exact tv as you and had the same problem. I took it to a repair shop who told me I needed a new DMD chip and that it would be 850 to fix. I used the information in thread above to get the part number and bought the chip on ebay for under 200. Here is a link to the listing CHIP

People have had good success. I will be replacing mine tomorrow.

White spots on screen and growing every day

If these spots are small, they are likely the visual effect of a failing DLP chip. When some of the tiny mirrored surfaces on the chip stop moving, this is the result. This is not something you can fix yourself. A Samsung authorized service center will charge $400-$500 to replace it for you.
